Invicti Security

Acunetix scales well from a small web development presence like ours to a full-scale enterprise focused on that. The various tools and sensors that provide assurance of the results and can give feedback down to the lines of code in the source are proof of this. Various integrations exist as well. The main thing for us is that it simplifies confirming and remediating potential issues in our code or proving that products we use have issues that we can then take to the vendor for correction.

Recorded Future

Recorded Future [is] an amazing tool for threatening intelligence that can provide all the information of emerging threats, attackers, APT teams and everything security experts want. The dashboard is very nice and easy to understand. Threatening feeds are regularly updated. All information collected by a recorded future is so well organized that we can easily analyze it. It is a very useful tool for threatening advice and the purpose of product monitoring. We can add the watch lists we want to watch. Product monitoring helps to scan data from online social media and detect data leaks.

Cons

Invicti Security

  • Does not support multiple endpoints well (e.g. apps and services that do not reside at the same URL).
  • Has authentication problems with modern enterprise apps which involve a lot of redirects to unrelated endpoints, federated IDs, SSO, etc. This is related to the first point.
  • The vulnerability detection capability is not as robust as Burp Suite Pro + extensions, Metasploit + auxiliary modules, Nmap + scripts, etc.

Recorded Future

  • E-Mail reports can show unrelated content, especially sometimes you'll see alerts popping up for articles which have been published years ago but for some reason were just recently discovered by RF.
  • Yara rules from their insikt blog sometimes are not syntactically correct and need to be manually edited to actually work. There's some proper QA missing.
  • Their global and 3rd party risk reports could be more tailored towards the industries of their client. There is entries for totally unrelated security incidents. Of course a global list aims to find incidents on a global view, but it doesn't add much value at that point.

    Recorded Future

I've had an issue with their browser-plugin which didn't want to authenticate correctly. RF's support could arrange for a session with me and identify and solve the issue. I was very pleased how serious they took my problems and also how knowledgeable they are.
If I have more general questions they quickly reply and most likely also have a solution at hand.

    Alternatives Considered

    Invicti Security

ZAP is a free tool, and adequate. But it is to that extent less friendly. I would not be as confident of the results and it definitely can't produce reports on par with Acunetix. There would be a lot of legwork on our end if we desired to switch to this tool.

    Return on Investment

    Invicti Security

    • Saved money compared to other commercial scanners, especially over the long run.
    • Scan speed seems to be pretty good compared to some of the bulkier commercial products out there. However, that largely has to do with proper configuration.
    • A downside is that is requires a bit of extra work just to get it set up to scan APIs, web services, etc.

    Recorded Future

    • Recorded Future crashes my web browser in cases I have to open a web page containing hundreds of IPs. A quick disable feature for a particular tab would be beneficial for someone like me.
