It is very helpful for budgeting and reporting. I love how easy it is to automate reports and presentations. It can be more difficult to plan specific activities. It feels more high-level than activity-level. It shows totals rather than individual transactions (either past or future transactions).

Webfocus is great for any company who wants to maintain a strong history of analytics. The reports update frequently so it is a great tool for any e-commerce business to have. I'm not sure how well it will work for any forms of business but Webfocus is currently one of our most used forms of software.

Pros

  • Allows assumptions to be created for fringes, taxes, capital etc. We are now able to push these type of expenses to individual departments as opposed to a single department. Gives us true costs for each department.
  • The flexibility in revising and creating new sheets allows our organization to modify our budget/forecast approach without much downtime. Also, we can make these modifications internally . No need to hire consultants to complete these tasks.
  • Adaptive Insights is an easy to use/understand tool for end-users. Our users typically struggle with new systems but the Adaptive roll-out was very smooth with very little end-user angst.

  • Webfocus reports all have the option to export to Excel. The excel spreadsheet is always very organized and clean, and the information is very easy to read.
  • Webfocus is able to maintain data from years prior. We can look up what we featured in catalogs and all the sales history attached with it.
  • Webfocus is able to provide support to a variety of departments. For example, our buying team uses it for planning in advance and our marketing team uses the tool to see how categories and products as the selling

Cons

  • Model - It takes a little bit of time to get familiar with how the model works.
Denise Lewis profile photo
  • Disconnect between new world knowledge base and 'old school' employees. Sales system engineers and training personnel know and understand the latest technology (to some degree). Long time employees who are in tech support, consulting and after-sales system engineering are apparently NOT required to stay current with the latest version. Too many times, we've been told that we could solve our problem by writing code. We are NOT a development shop.
  • Documentation is unimaginative and incomplete. We learned that there are ways to do things that are not recorded anywhere. For example, when using the change control management (export/import) tool to set up production for development, must first and separately export the security/groups/roles/rules configuration before any of other components.
  • We were not told about the enterprise domain templates available to quickly establish security/groups/roles/rules and a simple portal. Learned the hard way.
  • The organization is very East Coast centric. Technical Support becomes sparse after 2:00 West Coast time. The Summit appears to always take place back East and at hours that are painful for those traveling from other time zones.

Usability

The Adaptive Suite is well-rounded. We love the add-on OfficeConnect because it allows us to quickly pull data from Adaptive in a report format. Once you set up the OfficeConnect, it's as easy as pushing a button to re-run. This has been especially helpful for month-end reporting and reconciling data in the Budget.

Best BI tool/product I have used. The others don't compare overall. Some can look fancier, but when you actually use them with large data and data from numerous systems/sources that is where most of the competition falls away. I also don't like downtime. I have basically none for a large user base with WebFocus. Even SAP Crystal Reports went down for 4 days once - 4 days because the admin password got locked out due to a glitch and we had zero reports for 4 days. WebFocus has never had more than a few minutes of downtime. It's like a tank that just keeps rolling. There is no other choice for reliable BI.

Support

Support requests are always handled promptly and resolved favourably. Many user support requests arise during initial deployment and use and often represent questions relating to best methods or how to approach their particular situation, which we gladly assist with as we provide the appropriate skills transfer training and assistance. As clients become more knowledgeable in working with the product suite then they tend not to ask many questions.

Implementation

Adaptive Insights8.2
Based on 13 answers
In our experience the Adaptive Suite is quick and easy to deploy. Most implementations are facilitated in just a few weeks but may range depending on organisation complexity from say 2 to 12 weeks with only the very largest and most complex taking a little longer. When key stakeholders are properly engaged and the opportunities for skills transfer are exercised, we find that implementations proceed well and are delivered on time and to project budget

Plan ahead on what data will be accessible and the type of security required on the database and if you will want to use security that is built into the software. It is worth consulting with the vendor on what your plan is and how they recommend you proceed in order to get results you are happy with.

Alternatives Considered

For us, it came down to Adaptive Insights and Host Analytics. The benefits seemed very comparable. We ultimately decided on Adaptive Insights because it cost less to implement and the time to implement was less compared to Host Analytics. We are VERY happy with our decision to go with Adaptive Insights.

WebFOCUS is more visual and easier to build for a non-programming user, where with little knowledge on data management and dedication to learn it, you can easily start creating very well presented reporting that is automated. With the Report Caster system it allows you to fully automate your reporting with very little supervision.

  • Adaptive has significantly decreased the time to generate month end financials and associate forecast.
  • Adaptive has enabled us to easily create what-if scenarios which either were not possible before or would be too time consuming to take on.
