ADP Enterprise eTIME

ADP Enterprise eTime is good for smaller employers with very few variances in policies, PTO/sick accruals, etc.

FunctionFox

FunctionFox was designed by and for smaller creative companies. For those companies, it hits the spot - the terminology is right, features and processes are bang on, and the focus is appropriate. This means however, that it is not as well suited to large organizations, or to companies that are not in the creative industry

Pros

  • Once the pay rules, access, time entry method, etc. is set-up correctly, the system accurately calculates time, PTO, OT, shift differentials, etc.
  • Entering punches, pay codes is easy for employees to use.
  • Approving time cards for managers is easy.

  • FunctionFox makes time tracking easy. The interface for recording time is simple and quick to use, with pull-down menus for clients, projects and tasks, and a choice between recording time manually or with a timer.
  • FunctionFox helps me understand my business better. A wide range of easy-to-generate reports lets me delve down to understand which clients and projects are most (or least) profitable. Tracking estimates against actual fees and hard costs helps me develop more accurate and realistic quotes.
  • FunctionFox makes me more professional. Time-tracking is just the beginning. FunctionFox makes that simple task into a really powerful tool that helps me appear - and be - more professional. It helps me develop comprehensive estimates, ensures better communications with clients during the life of a project, and helps me create accurate and complete invoices. As a freelancer, professionalism is vitally important in establishing and maintaining trust with clients.
  • FunctionFox supports its software with above-and-beyond customer service. Whenever I have had a question about FunctionFox - how to configure it so it works better for me, whether a new feature would be useful to me, how to do something, where to find something - any question, really - is answered right away by a representative that understands my business.

Cons

  • Java has been a problem for us. We recently converted to the 'Java free' version and although it works well, I do miss a few of the aspects of the 'Java' version we had previously.

  • FunctionFox doesn't have an accounting function built in, so isn't totally stand alone. The simplicity that brings to the program is great, but it might be nice to have everything in one package.

There are better tools out there to track multiple aspects of a business. We had issues with using multiple programs and keeping projects consistent between those programs, it became confusing and there was a lot of room for error across the board. We have since transitioned to a new program that tracks all elements of a project, from tasks, creative direction to proofing, budget, estimates, hours etc. I would highly recommend FunctionFox for a smaller company (Less than 10 people) in order to monitor hours and bill to actuals.

Usability

ADP Enterprise eTIME5.0
Based on 1 answer
In some ways, the flexibility of eTime makes it much more usable than some time card systems. I can log my own hours at my convenience (as long as it is during the pay period), and eTime sends me a reminder email 24 hours before the cut-off for each pay period. I can log hours for multiple positions using particular pay codes, although there is no way for me to save frequently used or "my" pay codes -- adding this feature would be a much-appreciated improvement to eTime's usability. Juggling multiple pay codes within the current system, however, is cumbersome. There can also be problems if an incorrect or overlapping hour is accidentally entered and saved -- certain fields turn red and are difficult to adjust, often requiring the help of a software administrator. Correcting other errors and entering historical hours is extremely difficult, and the software does not work well on some browsers (and it is unattractive when I have been able to get it to work)

It's a good tool for tracking hours and overall budget. It does not give you insight into why there are those hours, or what part of the project has over burned. The tool is also tough to export reports and find the correct information throughout. Not only this, but I also have a hard time changing project details - there's no real easy way to and there's a larger room for error

I haven't used FunctionFox for a lot of support requests. On the times that i've been having issues I've had the issue resolved within a day, most questions I have had i've been able to source answers online or from a colleague. From what I have experienced the support team seems great.

Unsure on implementation of FunctionFox - was before my time at the company. Everyone at the company had a good understanding of the product and how to use it by the time I joined. My understanding is we implemented ourselves with a few training sessions for the creative team and adding hours as well as training for the account team to add projects

Alternatives Considered

We haven't yet, but are considering moving from ADP altogether.

FunctionFox has limited use across other platforms I have used. It's really best for smaller companies with less projects and people to manage. There is really no way to track elements of the project (e.g. design changes), but serves as a really useful tool to monitor budget, hours and finances. I would also encourage businesses to use it to monitor employee hours, is any one over burning? Are designers working 60hrs a week? Do you need to hire additional resources

Return on Investment

  • The system allows our employees to quickly record their time so that they can focus on their day-to-day jobs.
  • The system allows our managers to quickly approve time cards.
  • ADP Enterprise eTime does not have a sufficient query function to enable employers to easily create/schedule reports that the business needs. ADP charges high fees for custom reports.

  • Increased employee efficienty
