Aras PLM

Aras PLM works for our company, yet I don't have experience with any other software system. The system does not refresh and update quickly. Often times users need to force a refresh or logout and logon to verify changes and updates. The Lock and Unlock feature needs getting used to.

Infor CRM

With such a wide variety of CRMs available to IT managers, it's difficult to recommend Infor CRM when at a similar price point products with a larger user base and more recognized brand are available. However, because of its underlying framework (.NET) just about anything can be accomplished. Infor CRM can be more of a business application framework than some of its more restrictive competitors, and a wide variety of third-party extensions are available.

  • Aras PLM definitely controls documents and provides the approval levels needed to be compliant.
  • Aras PLM makes organizing and structuring libraries logical and intuitive.
  • The search tools in Aras PLM provides quick and efficient access to documents

  • Tabbed view visibiity to multiple aspects of accounts and opportunities - Allows quick visiblilty to multiple aspects quickly.
  • Ability to create group views within Account and Opportunities - Allows creation of more customized subsets as required.
  • Group view copy function - Allows customized modification of established group views to create more appropriate layouts without re-creating the wheel.

Cons

  • Aras PLM uses terms and labels that can be confusing like Subsystem / Subsystem Version, Project Record Number (PRN). Companies need to understand these terms and develop business processes to set user standards.
  • I personally use Aras PLM to manage information technology project documents. In my opinion, Aras PLM is more geared to product and engineering. I would like to see a general project management Aras PLM version with terms and labels that I am familiar with.
  • The description field should be made required. Many of our engineers have created records and left that blank because it was not required. This would help with the context or background of each record.

  • Remote Office Syncing Problems : Syncing remote instances of the Saleslogix server was always problematic ( data out of sync).
  • Extended user security controls.
  • More form controls available to developers within the lan client architect application.

Alternatives Considered

Our company developed numerous IBM Lotus Notes databases to perform document control. Aras PLM is the better choice to IBM Notes databases and home grown databases.

As the admin, the ability to make simple changes with Infor is much more diffcult and mistakes are easily made. The back help support and training materials for Infor is severly lacking vs any other CRM product i have used in the past. I will say the support piece does seem to be getting better since Infor took over, but they have a long way to go to equal a CRM like Salesforce.com.
