Palo Alto Networks Traps

Malware that doesn’t leave files behind has become widely available. Anyone who can afford to reverse this trend should purchase technology. Application whitelisting isn’t for everyone, and Palo Alto Networks Traps can help. Enterprises looking for a low-affected, next-generation solution with high protection should consider it. PAN Traps is a great product at a reasonable price, and I highly recommend it.

  • User IDentity based feature is fantastic and intrusion prevention just works with least false-positive possible.
  • Very reachfull and intuitive GUI, just love it

Palo Alto Networks Traps

  • Traps does a fantastic job at stopping malware before it executes
  • Traps defends against 0 day attacks better than other products we have tried
  • Traps isolates malware to that particular host better than any A/V we've tried

Cons

FortiGate

  • When we switched to Fortinet Fortigate, it took some time getting used to and become familiar with the new interface. Being used to strictly command-line interfaces, a full GUI-based firewall was something brand new. Careful planning had to be done when creating rules to ensure we didn't miss anything. However, once we got used to the new GUI interface, going from one Fortinet product to another was simple, as Fortinet used the same interface for all of its devices.

  • To be honest, at this time I don't have any suggestions for you guys. Sales team was great, tech team is great, product has been great. I like the interface.. so no complaints or suggestions yet!

The user interface shared among many simultaneous users is very easy to get around. With shared favorites among users, most tasks are easily bookmarked and can quickly be found and edited. Their strategy for web filter integration is easy to understand and manage as well. With some general direction, setup and maintenance were easy to do and easy to teach others in the organization to do as well.

We live in Turkey. Fortinet's Turkey office [dealt] constantly with us in our every problem or our experience. In addition, global support teams also supported every ticket we opened in every problem we encountered. They support innovative approaches and evaluate and offer solutions. In this context, they were very supportive of the problems we encountered in previous versions.

The support we receive from Palo Alto is one of the best aspects of Traps. It is very easy to recommend their support. It seems much easier to connect directly with someone with a deep understanding of the product rather than other companies where you basically have to make an airtight case that it is some kind of non-standard issue that can't be solved with existing documentation. Palo Alto digs deep and helps with advanced troubleshooting to get things working.

Alternatives Considered

Fortinet was well placed on the Gartner report which lead to my initial investigation into the company. I quickly narrowed my selections down to Palo Alto and Fortinet, due to feature set, reputation and ease of use. Fortinet won out simply because Palo Alto did not offer a small branch style firewall at the time I was looking. I'm very glad they did. I have enjoyed working with their products from the moment they were first racked.

Palo Alto Networks Traps

Traps and its integration with central management tools by Palo Alto and wildfire was a better fit for our environment. Others provided similar levels of protection but in some cases did not live up to expectations as traps did. Palo Alto also worked with us to better Traps, its management tool, and deployment issues. Other vendors were not as forthcoming with support

Return on Investment

FortiGate

  • Fortigates have an interesting bundle model for support and subscription services that make it an attractive option to deploy Firewall, IDS, Ant-virus, anti-SPAM in a single device. The cost of the bundle is pretty much what you pay for the device, not requiring huge expenditures on it's time to renew the hardware.

Palo Alto Networks Traps

  • No ransomware has sucessfully impact our endpoints, this has saved us hundreds if not millions of dollars lost
  • Users are now more aware of what files/processes that are malicious are being run, this give a good education on to the users
  • the cost of implementation is relatively average, compares to competitor
