Notion

If you are generating a lot of content and working in a team environment, Notion is a clutch way to make sure that every member of the team is working on the same draft or version of your document. If you are in a process chain, it also becomes quite useful being able to drag the content card from one person's to do list from another's when it becomes their responsibility.

Socialtext

We use Social Text as a platform to air our issues with different departments. We voice our concerns and suggestions so we can help find a solution to the problems we incur on a daily basis. We need to have social text as an app so we can communicate in real time not only during work hours.

Pros

Notion

  • Notion is very easy to use and create content on. With other Wikis, you have to edit the page using widgets and never know what it will look like until you are done. With Notion you get to create in the same view that others will see when they view your page.
  • Notion is very clean and easy to read. There are a lot of different choices for how to format the content however you wold like.

Socialtext

  • Version history - Always keeps the edited versions and one can revert back any time
  • Creating and Editing an article is very easy and intutive
  • Sharing the articles with peers

Cons

Notion

  • Sometimes the data functions are difficult to get working.
  • Wish there was an option for folders to better organized.
  • Formatting does not work well when using copy/paste or exporting to another type of file or document.

Socialtext

  • Search needs a ton of improvements. It was very slow a year ago
  • Search result quality was also not that good
  • I know they have improved their UI recently but when i used it last year it did not really have any design elements which could be used to make the articles look more presentable. It was important for us as we used it for external communication as well.

We have a lot of info in Socialtext already. It would be hard to get all that info out and port it to a different system

Alternatives Considered

Notion

I have replaced Evernote use with Notion. Evernote became just a place to shuffle resources to essentially read later, however products like Pocket have replaced that as well. Inclusion of the database approach from Notion far exceeds what Evernote offered. Evernote was good at keeping notes, but good portion of notes in my workflow are temporary and easy delete or archive.

Socialtext

I frankly like Confluence better than socialtext because of the speed and the quality of search. They also have better design elements which can help make the articles pleasant to the eyes.

Return on Investment

Notion

  • It reduces duplicative work as everyone is literally on the same page.
  • Allows multiple stages of the production to happen simultaneously without impeding the other, i.e. content editing and photo insertion can happen simultaneously once the draft is finished.

Socialtext

  • We get solutions to concerns much faster
  • We promote interactions with the other depts
  • We listen and have discussions
