We have an in-house contractor who deals a lot with the backend issues related to this software. I do know he's generally positive in regards to MIP's performance in this regard. He does not know a lot of the front-end report building functionality of MIP, he's not a developer in that sense, but he's stated that that kind of end user report design/creation is not easy to pick up with this software.

The Technology unit supports MIP because MIP is hosted on our own server. Most of the support is fairly minimal but there are annual updates on MIP software as well as annual tax reporting software that needs to be upgraded for 1099 records distribution. There is a network administrator is provides this support as well as a network support to upgrade software on a user level.

Basic installation of MIP is pretty straight forward. A small company planning to only use the basic functions should get along ok with 1 or 2 computer savvy employees. For medium or larger organizations, I'd recommend someone on staff that knows and understands Windows Server and SQL Server fairly well. Database and report setup can get complicated very quickly.

We have an IT Director who works with all our software applications. We also have an IT Systems Administrator who provides the ongoing support by implementation of all updates for all workstations, troubleshooting any system-related issues, and assists if you request help in making a call to MIP Support to be present and answer any of the technical questions that might arise as your case is resolved.

We have 2 accounting clerks and 2 bookkeepers that all use MIP accounting. We use MIP to pay all of our invoices from various vendors both large and small. We also use MIP to do all of our year end audit reports. and it is really helpful to use it to quickly calculate and invoice the total cost for a specific vendor, or various vendors.

I use the support of MIP for the majority of the issues I encounter. There haven't been many. The biggest issue I have had with the software is migrating it from one computer to another when I have had an upgrade. At that time I have simply used our IT support which is outsourced.

Only 2 of us in the Finance Department. Once we got going in 2012 with the software, we have been able to handle on our own with only a few support calls - when something unusual happens. We use the online hosted version

MIPS does not require any specialized skills beyond the basic accounting skills required of my staff. This ease of use is what makes MIPS so good for new staff. I have about 13 years of experience using the Fund Accounting module of MIPS and have encountered virtually every situation imaginable. So I am the primary support person. When I encounter a situation beyond my experience, the MIPS Support team is always available to help.

They must be really good at creating workarounds because the support is nonexistent. The program is unstable. It times out too quickly and will drop lengthy journal entries. If you have an allocation entry that takes over thirty minutes to input - you have to split it into multiple smaller entries or it will drop and you will lose all your previous input. Have I mentioned that this program is a nightmare?

MIP is used most specifically for the accounting aspects. It is best used by accountants or CPAs. Those with lesser education can certainly be taught to use specific modules, but may not understand all the implications of specific entries or how they are related.
