Overall Satisfaction with Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service)
Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) is our primary storage solution for our AWS native workloads. It is even considered a primary storage option for our non-Cloud native solutions. Due to the favorable cost, storage / class options available and integrations, Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) is king when it comes to storage. The business problem solved is simply cloud based storage needs. We have various use cases from very simple document storage to workloads with very complex storage requirements.
- Favorable costs
- Ease of integrations
- Storage classes suited to various needs
- Powerful via CLI
- Storage classes/tiers change often
- Flat structure has slight learning curve
- Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) in console has limited options
- Reduced long-term archival storage costs
- Improved storage turn around time
- 20% less demand to on-prem filers
- Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) and Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS)
Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) is the only AWS offering for object storage. DynamoDB is fantastic for unstructured data but does not handle object storage. The relational database service (RDS) is excellent but only applies to use cases with structured table data, and does not store objects either. EBS is elastic block storage which is used for operating systems. It could store objects but is not the right solution.
