Overall Satisfaction with Avalara
We use Avalara for multiple reasons. Avalara Returns to file our many sales tax returns as we collect sales tax in over 20 states. They keep us compliant and correct! I use AVATAX to code our items to ensure correct taxability. This is something I simply could never do without their expertise. And newly Consumer Use to help us get our personal use taxes correct. This is an area we just struggled in. It is so difficult to not only know WHAT is taxable when you purchase it, but how MUCH of it is taxable, and at what rate! I couldn't do this with them!
- Returns - There are so many! They keep us on task and compliant without us having to think twice!
- Consumer Use - By tax coding our items purchased, and where from, they are able to quickly figure out how much you owe, and if you even have overpaid!
- Support Customer Service - Their answers to questions can be short and borderline rude. However I have found with further explanation, I can get to the answer I am needing. Also with this current world of 'work at home', email is not always the best way to present oneself as you cannot hear tone of voice in an email.

Big Commerce was already done when I came on board as was QuickBooks. 3dc was difficult, but not from Avalara's side. Woo Commerce has been wonderful!

Having professionals calculate the correct amount of sales tax for each of the 20+ states we pay into is a load off my desk! I couldn't ask for better accuracy than the 99.99% our company has received in the past 10-12 years.
My understanding is a lot of research was done and Avalara simply was the best

Cross-Border Tax Compliance with Avalara
I'm the CFO of an organization that sells Personal Medical Devices world wide. Since the change in Wayfair vs South Dakota, we went from collecting sales taxes in one state, to now collecting taxes in 23 different states. This just wouldn't be possible without the professional help that Avalara has given us. Not only have we already used them for Sales Tax Returns in Texas for over 10 years, but now they have helped me set up the other 22 states and in the last 2 years we also had them help us with our Consumer Use Tax. Since using the ACU program, I know I can reset assured knowing that we are paying the correct amount of taxes and not have to worry that if the next big audit occurs, how many hundreds of thousands of dollars is that going to hit our company for. Our expansions was into new areas for online shopping and how we approach that market. No matter what or how we sell, it all boils down to having AVATAX to be there to ensure we are doing everything the best way possible. We went from 1 to 23 states to collect in. Not only did Avalara assist us with the sales tax return, but allowed us to report our consumer use tax in a much more efficient manner and by doing this, we know it's done correctly.
We already sell internationally - We do ship World Wide with a few exceptions. We currently manage this by having our customer pay all VAT fees. Should that change in the future, it will be with Avalara's help. I couldn't do this without them.
We do not use Marketplace selling. Our devices are by prescription and sold under a physician's recommendation.
