Using Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series Switches

30000 - The people represents all business functions. The Cisco Catalyst 9200 switches are used to connect access equipment to the rest of the campuses network and the Internet. This includes the access point, and therefor also all wireless users. The switches are also used for non-user devices, like building control, etc.
8 - 2 employees does the physical labor, which requires some fitness. The rest (6) can do the configuration, which requires understanding of general networking, and some Cisco specific knowledge. The Catalyst series have been very consistent for 20 years. This is a huge benefit, when supporting many generations of Cisco equipment at the same time.
  • No, we have not done something unexpected or innovative. But that is the hole point. The Catalyst series is very consistent, and is a safe bet/investment.
  • We will use the switches together with Cisco DNS center for better management and monitoring.
  • We will use the switches together with Cisco ISE for better access control.
We have now bought 468 switches, and we will most likely continue using this series, because it is the switch that is the cheapest for our needs. Maybe for some specific use cases, we will use the Catalyst 9300 series. Because we are more pressed on manpower, that money, we stick with what works.
