We use Ustream across our entire college to video stream all of our major ensemble concerts (orchestra, choir, bands); all of our major sporting events (e.g., basketball; hockey; volleyball); some educational lectures; and all of our recitals. It is an essential way of maintaining relationships with our families and alums across the world.
- Capacity for unlimited viewers . . . we've never had a problem with bandwidth in spite of having literally 1000s of views for some events.
- Ease of use for our technical staff and for our students who often 'man' the streaming equipment.
- Technical support is available as needed . . . although, honestly, we've rarely needed to contact support.
- Sorry, but we've had no issues worthy of highlighting.
We have greatly expanded views from our initial use to today. Many of our families and alumni live hundreds or thousands of miles away and Ustream provides them with a connection that permits them to 'feel a part' of the action, even though they are not present. We have seen viewers from Europe, from Africa, and from just about every state in the union. Ustream helps us sustain relationships.
