Overall Satisfaction with IBM Cloud Virtual Servers

Mostly for testing purposes. Proof of concepts, test features, replicate scenarios, etc.
We run backup servers or DB servers, usually running Linux and sometimes Windows
  • create instances running Linux OS on Z platform
  • create instances running Linux or Windows OS on x86 platform
  • you pay per usage
  • web interface still lacks some VM features
  • error reporting needs improvements. not always you get clear messages of the issue
  • web interface is not as fast as the competitors
  • sorry, not responsible for the financial part
  • but it is cheaper than having to buy your own Z series
  • but still short on regions availability
If it fits your needs, then yes it is cheaper to run your Z servers on the IBM cloud. If you just need to run regular linux/windows vms on x86, you can compare with the competirors for better pricing.
Sorry, have not used it, but it is a good feature.
This is useful in some scenarios, although more expensive. It is important if you need extra security or isolation.
Have used it because of previous IBM partership, and also because of the need to test Linux on Z series.
  • IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions
  • IBM Cloud Object Storage
  • IBM Db2 on Cloud
We have used IBM hardware and software for years. Although IBM is a little behind in the cloud world, it has some unique features like running Linux on Z platform.
It is well suited if you want/need to run Linux on Z platform, and pay per usage, or if you need to integrate with already existing IBM servers in your environment.
