Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)

In my organisation Kofax Power PDF has been successfully used for years for documents handling and security, signatures, redaction, editing, review, and for communication. Review of incoming documents and providing completed reports are all done using Power PDF advanced. Multiple purchases of Power PDF, including three copies of the new Kofax Power PDF Advanced 4.0, five copies of Power PDF Advanced 3.0, were made by my company to use across the organisation. It was much cheaper than the alternative and provided full and reliable functionality. Hugely cost effective. No regular fees for a subscription was needed. Outright purchase was clearly an advantage to control cost.
  • Making documents searchable so they are editable.
  • Signing documents and securing signed documents.
  • Redaction when information needs to be securely removed and document cleaned.
  • The most frequent use is document compiling as single PDF and extraction.
  • Conversion to Word and Excel.
  • Highlighting colours, appear duller than on Okular, a free version, or Adobe Acrobat.
  • When highlighted text selection is more difficult. In Okular text selection is easier.
  • Panel for tools needs to be more customisable for tools used more frequently.
  • Once signed the signature should not be movable like in Adobe.
  • Huge cost saving, I have eight fully paid Nuance five Advanced, three Kofax 4.0 Advanced. To have so many on Acrobat would be unaffordable.
  • Time saving in signature, editing.
  • Strong documents security.
I found it easy to use. I migrated from Nuance Power PDF 2.0 over many years to more and more use of the software's latest versions. I have also paid software from Adobe Acrobat so I was able to compare the cost and the features. The decision was clear, Nuance Kofax was clearly superior. That is why I now have 8 of them, not counting Power PDF early versions.
While the above reads as Reader I have used Acrobat 9, 10 and Acrobat Pro 11. I found Kofax Power PDF to be as good in most areas and better with more features in several areas like security, ease of use, cost, outright ownership versus subscription model for 11 Pro, and familiarity with use.

I have found that I have rarely needed support as the software works well, with no crashes. I had to access support when my PC died and and I was unable to uninstall it. Support helped with reinstalling it. Also I had an issue with the Key to install. Support was quick to resolve it for me.

The features I have found most useful was the signatures and document security. I deal with documents that need high security. I have also needed to extract relevant pages and redact words in documents. Compiling PDF is needed daily in large numbers. The feature I use most is editing and highlighting which is easy and smooth.
It is suited for everything I do as I do everything on it where a PDF software is needed. I find it performs all the tasks without difficulty. Editing, redaction is excellent. Document assembly is unique, gives a great overview and saves time. When I need to do rapid scrolling of a large document I find it slower than some lighter footprint free software like Sumatra. But Kofax Power PDF is appropriate for all use where PDF files are used.
