Laserfiche - A Great ECM Technology
Overall Satisfaction with Laserfiche
We use Laserfiche in multiple capacities here at the college and throughout multiple departments. From simple document retention/archiving allowing us to reduce storage of paper documents to automated cross-department workflows that allow us to process requests involving multiple people during the review and approval stages.
Many departments use Laserfiche as their main resource for accessing and reviewing student documents for Admissions, Financial Aid and Counseling. Documents in these areas are taken in at a main reception desk, scanned, indexed and stored for review by specialists.
Other departments, including Accounting, Admissions and Information Technologies use PDF forms to submit requests to automated workflows. These workflows reduce paper, loss of requests and expedite our internal processes by moving the documents within the Laserfiche Workflow system so that each person who needs to review the document can do so quickly and efficiently and then approve it to move it along in the process.

Pros
- Document archiving and indexing
- Workflow and business process automation
- Detailed audit trails of document creation, movement, deletion
- Strong security allowing documents and folders to be secured down to specific users, groups, Windows User Groups, and more.
Cons
- Their Audit Trail tool is a bit sluggish and could use some performance adjustments. But the tool itself is very useful - providing complete details of when documents/folders are created, edited, moved, deleted and who performed these actions at each step.
- Automation and paper reduction of several Accounting-based processes, including requisitions and general ledger requests
- Reduction of paper use in Financial Aid and Admissions
