First Impression is Always the Correct One! Linode SHOULD be an Enterprise Cloud Solution for Everyone!

Overall Satisfaction with Linode

Being an IT security consultant nowadays has lots of preparation steps you need to take to convince your clients to invest in it. Linode made my work so easy by launching specific workloads within minutes and demoing an overall environment no matter how complex it is, with a fraction of an on-prem infrastructure costs. Moreover, customers by seeing the simplicity of Linode, often are asking about migrating services/workloads to the cloud, which adds value to my work. VM creation, specific workloads (websites, WordPress, nginx, etc.) enterprise workloads (like databases, etc.) within minutes, enterprise backups within seconds, and security as a service within clicks!! Thank you so much Linode/Akamai!!

  • Working entirely from a browser
  • Security from scratch
  • Migration from other cloud providers like AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.
  • Rethink pricing with a Pay-As-You-Go model instead of a resource allocation model, or at least extend the image creation to a much, much larger space (6GB nowadays is just very low...)
  • VNET integration similar to other cloud providers not supported (or at least easily)
  • Scripting environment to create/manage resources

  • Positive: Easy creation
  • Negative: Lacks of custom image (limit of 6GB!!)
  • Negative: lack of enterprise-delegated access
  • Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2)
Compared to AWS EC2, Linode has an easier creation of services and lots of options to pre-select and get a ready VM installed in minutes.
Even though I spent a minimum amount on my first trials in Linode, (just a couple of bucks ...) support was instant and precise! Highly recommended, along with the simplicity of the documentation.
It is by far the lowest cost per VM you can find on an enterprise cloud provider. If you have ANY kind of PoC, then the solution should be always Linode/Akamai!! You can't find another solution cheaper, even if you create the VMs in your private cloud (ESXi / Hyper-V). The time that you will spend will double the cost of creating the VMs in Linode! Spin them up within minutes, do your research/customer project, document the solution/output, and delete the VMs within days or even hours! Best TCO ever!
Even as a test/DR infrastructure, you can deploy some resources, and validate the SLAs instantly. With many solutions in the Marketplace, security and high availability become a playground, without the necessity of specialized configs or manpower!

5 stars for instant deployment, a much easier marketplace than other cloud providers, and ....... WAY LOWER PRICE per Linode VM!! Not so good integration with other cloud providers, or scripting environments like Terraform, etc. (uses its scripting environment). Even though the pricing is BY FAR THE LOWEST on all cloud providers, there is no easy way to "manage" VMs and share access to others easily and control what they can create (role-based access control to "account" in general). For startups, fast/instant PoC (Proof of Concepts) scenarios, are highly recommended!
