Overall Satisfaction with Marketo

Marketo is handled by our marketing operations team and is mostly used to send mass emails and automated workflows between Marketo and Salesforce. The business problems it addresses are our lead management process and how leads should get routed according to different routing rules. Most importantly, it processes that scale globally.
  • Personalization -- from tokens to the landing page, dynamic content.
  • Email functions.
  • Smart campaigns and segmentation that help automate processes specifically to each business unit.
  • Analytics and reporting need some help. We're not able to plug data into an external database like Tableau or Periscope to slice and dice the data.

We mostly use Marketo to drive net new logos revenue, and cross-sell and upsell motion with different regions. Marketo has an extensive partner portfolio, so if you need to connect with a third-party tool such as GoToWebinar and tie all the activities back to Marketo, this can be easily done.
During my tenure here, we haven't really evaluated another tool besides Marketo, because of the technical debt that we have invested with this tool.
Marketo is well suited for small to medium-sized companies when your lead database size is not massive. I'm not sure if Marketo is the right tool if you need to send mass transactional emails, like 1M and over on a daily basis, since it is not an ESP tool.
