Overall Satisfaction with Navisworks

It's used across the whole organization. It's used by operations for clash detection and in some rare cases, it's used in estimating for quantification and project understanding.
  • When flying through the model, it's very smooth unlike the web-based application Assemble or the heavy application Revit.
  • Creating saved views and search sets is very easy.
  • The quantification aspect is a little "clunky" and not all that intuitive.
  • Creating search sets can be difficult and cumbersome (saving them is nice and easy). It would be nice to be able to simply search out an item using key words.
  • In operations, the clash detection feature has been very positive.
  • In preconstruction/estimating, it's been positive, but I can't say there is a direct indication of a positive ROI. It does, however, help with the precon/estimating process.
As described earlier, I really like that Navisworks is a desktop-run application rather than a web-based application. It runs smoothly and is relatively easy to use.

Assemble's biggest negative is that because it's web-based, you often find yourself waiting for things to load. However, Assemble is much much easier to use and extract quantities. This is obviously from a precon/estimating perspective.

Do you think Navisworks delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Navisworks's feature set?

Yes

Did Navisworks live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Navisworks go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Navisworks again?

Yes

I don't work with it in operations, so I'm not too familiar with clash detection, but simple model viewing is smooth, easy and quick. I think it's great for project understanding in preconstruction. It's not all that suited for quantification, although I think Navisworks has a lot of potential in this area.
