Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Dyn Managed DNS
Oracle Dyn Managed DNS is used across our entire organization to provide high availability for our domains, servers, as well as disaster recovery (Traffic Director). This way our domains never go down, our servers can failover, and services remain highly accessible to clients, prospects, and employees via the internet.
Pros
- It Just Works - We've tried several other solutions including running our own DNS and at the end of it all we found that you get what you pay for when it comes to DNS. Oracle Dyn Managed DNS works right out of the box.
- 4 Name Servers - It is really nice having 4 name severs at our disposal instead of the traditional 2.
- Extra Click to Publish - All changes made to a record need to be reviewed and officially "Published" in order to stick. This is quite helpful as I can't tell you how many times mistakes were made upon initial data entry.
Cons
- Price - Oracle Dyn Managed DNS is on the upper end of price when compared to other solutions. While there is nothing wrong with a premium price for a premium service, we are just talking about DNS.
- Traffic Director is a bit clunky to setup and get going. It requires that you spend time with their technical team to understand. This should be more intuitive.
- False Positives with Downtime probes - There are several instances when a probe for detecting downtime experienced issues sending constant "Down" and "Up" signals. Its annoying, but not impactful.
- Uptime - Our uptime has absolutely increased since switching to Oracle Dyn Managed DNS years ago. We can sleep well at night knowing that we can control traffic when a server fails.
- Less resources on administration - Using an enterprise platform means that it is easy for us to make modifications or changes to the records (which we do with some uncanny frequency)
Oracle Dyn Managed DNS is an enterprise solution for when speed and high availability combined with a lot of records/domains is important. It stacks up against the competition well in that regard. Others have a pretty and more intuitive interface and better pricing packages. We chose Oracle Dyn Managed DNS because we were tired of changing DNS providers and because we use other Oracle and Dyn products.
