Overall Satisfaction with Slack

Slack was used at a previous job of mine to communicate between the company. Various store locations were more easily connected to one another to improve day to day relations. Using slack to ask quick questions, collaborate on projects and even check inventory at other locations was much easier than using emails.
  • Great for real-time group discussions.
  • Lots of tools and options.
  • Makes it easy to both share and locate files.
  • Missing a calendar feature which would have been useful.
  • No project management features
Slack is great for quick communication between people. The notifications help to keep you up to speed if you are involved in multiple conversations. It is lacking some key useful features like a calendar and to-do lists that could really improve the way you can integrate it into your work. Project management is possible in some cases but can be made difficult by the lack of some of these features.

Using Slack

We used Slack for day to day communications between corporate and individual stores and for store to store communication. It was an easy way for corporate to get in touch with individual stores aside from emails, and it was a way for stores to connect to each other. Whether it was the managers discussing certain management styles and tools to visual merchandisers sharing styling tips, it made the communication much smoother.
We just had an IT guy who managed slack I believe.
  • Visual Merchandising collaboration.
  • Corporate communications with management.
  • Manager to manager communication through private channels.
  • Visual merchandisers actually weren't one of the main target groups that the company intended Slack to be used by. We ended up creating a channel to discuss our various projects and share photos and videos of displays.
