Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds IP Address Manager

We use SolarWinds IP Address Manager within the IP department to manage our IP address space, keeping track of subnets and the servers on them (where they have manually allocated IP addresses). The customers for the tool tend to be either the network team or engineers building new servers who need an IP address.
  • Presenting a visual representation of how the IP address space is carved up
  • Providing a quick way for engineers to self-allocate new IP addresses (thanks to the access model which lets us give them just the permissions they need)
  • Having an API, so that automated server build tools can allocate their own IP addresses from a range
  • The only real problem we have is where people haven't manually entered enough information into the tool.
  • Faster server build time is the main benefit, which saves a small amount of time and money on each build that we do.
I haven't contacted SolarWinds support for a while, but generally they seem to be O.K.

SolarWinds IP Address Manager is well suited to managing large numbers of subnets in a large organization. It would probably be overkill if you had 50 or 100 servers.
