Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor

SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor is being used by the IT department to monitor the backbone and ports of critical servers for activity and availability. It is very easy to see at a glance if there are any issues, and the live alerts keep an eye on things, so I can focus on other things.
  • At a glance on the NPM Summary tab I can see a list of all the ports that are monitored and what there status is.
  • I can see the Active Alerts and how long they have been active.
  • Interfaces with High Percent Utilization is easily viewable. This is good to know if you are troubleshooting a broadcast storm, or other network issues.
  • I have not been using SolarWinds NPM long enough to find any weaknesses.
  • I was not involved in the deployment of SolarWinds so it is impossible for me to state an overall impact, but the impact it has today is great. It frees up time for other issues.
  • I have used SolarWinds to alert me when servers are off line, which in turn helps me start working on an issue sometimes before the end users ever know there is an problem.
SolarWinds NPM is a huge help in the small to mid sized business where staff is usually not what it should be to do a good job of keeping tabs on everything. It frees up the "mental cycles" to focus on other issues more pressing than, "are my interfaces up for all my servers?".
