Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor

We use SAM to monitor our physical and virtual Windows Servers and HP Blade Enclosures across our entire organization. We needed a reliable product to send us email/pager alerts when our systems are in a Critical or Down state.
  • HP hardware monitoring -- email/pager alerts tell us when servers have bad disks, RAM, etc.
  • Customized alerts to let us know when very specific errors/conditions arise
  • THWACK user community, ability to download user-provided templates and solutions
  • Custom reports need to be more intuitive
  • DR/Failover/Clustering features need to be more robust
  • Virtualization Manager should be part of the base product
  • The ability to offer the SAM alerting features to other departments allows the other departments to save money by not having to invest in their own alerting infrastructure.
  • The support is excellent for the money--they have walked me through a full restore.
  • The finance people have stated that SAM is cheaper than Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM).
SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor has a better dashboard, better customization. Agentless. Cheaper.
Great for server and enclosure hardware monitoring, great for email and pager alerting. We have SolarWinds Server and Application Monitoring (SAM) polling engines in both of our data centers. They provide tons and tons of information on software and hardware errors and conditions, errors that most likely would never have been seen by the human eye unless parsed and sent via email to us by SolarWinds SAM.
