Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

I manage the infrastructure for a multi-location construction company. We use the Veeam Data Platform Backup and Replication software to backup our onsite point of sale and file share servers and high importance user machines to a centralized data server at our main office. The backed up data is then backed up again to an offsite server. We prefer to have an onsite solution and access to our backups for instances where the internet is not available. It can also be quicker to access this data locally than it would be to download it all from a cloud repository. When it comes to restoring a machine, Veeam Data Platform makes it easy and saves my department a ton of time. Also, the ability to pull only selected files is incredible, especially when users accidentally change, move, or delete files on the public file share.
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • License portability as your environment needs change
  • Automating test restores to validate recoverability
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • License portability as your environment needs change
  • Full machine restore from server
  • Guest file restoration
  • Ease of installation on the guest machine
  • Ease of connecting the guest machine to the server
  • The Backup and Replication program is a little slow to open on my server

Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?

We have no cloud workloads. Sometimes I'll create a virtual machine or 2 for testing purposes and back them up using Veeam Data Platform. We have around a dozen servers and a couple of workstations that are backed up. I ordered Veeam Data Platform based on the amount of machines I intended to backup and for what I was anticipating in the near future.
  • Minimal downtime for users due to file loss or server malfunction.
  • We had a server completely die and were able to get a new one running over a weekend thanks to Veeam Data Platform
  • Many IT man hours saved for being able to backup a PC and restore it to new hardware.
I came from another company where we dealt with numerous backup technologies with various companies. Veeam Data Platform has always been my favorite to work with. When I joined with my current company, they were basically using a robocopy script to backup the file share servers to a new hard drive every day. I changed them over to Veeam Data Platform immediately. 2 months later, the main server bit the dust due to a freak accident that fried the motherboard. This happened on a Saturday night when the offices were closed. I was able to have a new server operational before offices opened on Monday morning. No one noticed and it was business as usual.
I have not yet used these abilities but I plan to.

For my particular scenario, Data Platform is perfect. It backs up my companies important information to a local host that is easy to access when we need it, but also backs that up to an offsite location in the event of a major catastrophe. And the guest file restoration is a godsend for when users get a little over zealous and delete or change something they shouldn't have.
