Veeam Backup & Replication
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
Veeam Backup & Recovery makes it easy for us to do both onsite and offsite backups of our VM infrastructure. As an added bonus, Veeam makes it easy to cover the ransomware angle through its support for immutable backups. Veeam is highly flexible and reliable. I would easily recommend it to any company that wants backups that they can rely on.
- Virtualized workloads
- In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
- Automating test restores to validate recoverability
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
- Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
- Reliable backups
- Immutable backups
- Various backup destinations
- Support could stand to improve by a bit. The level of support has seemingly lessened over the years I've been using it.
- It needs to be able to report backup repository statistics better when XFS and ReFS are in use.
- It could be a little better about cleaning up after itself (old logs, etc.).

With Veeam Backup and Recovery, I protect about 30 virtual workloads. I do this with various types of backup jobs, local, local immutable, Veeam Cloud Connect, object-based, and object-based immutable. This number is exactly as I anticipated when I first acquired the product. I aimed to protect everything with Veeam, and I do.
- Faster backups
- Immutable backups
- Flexible backup options
We have had other backup solutions in the past. They were unreliable and slow at best. Once we finally went from physical to virtual, I knew that I wanted to get things going with Veeam Backup and Recovery. I had always heard good things, and word of mouth ended up being accurate to say the least.
We have benefited by storing backups in the cloud and also having the ability to use the cloud for disaster recovery. Through our Cloud Connect partner, we can trigger a DR scenario at will and they'll spin up our VMs for us. As far as cloud storage goes, again, we use our Cloud Connect partner, but we also do object-based immutable storage elsewhere.
We do not use this feature.
