Overall Satisfaction with Vertex
We use Vertex for US sales tax processing and filing. What we like about Vertex is that it has helped to automate our sales tax calculations through a stable integration with our internal billing system. Their team is also great to work with to ensure our sales tax filings get filed on time. Their tax engine also covers a wide range of products/services when some of their competitors are limited. One area for improvement is that they lack integrations with some ERPs and billing systems.

We needed sales tax software that could manage a large number of uncommon products. Vertex had sales tax classifications that matched directly or were close enough that, with a small amount of customization we were able to get them to where they should be. They also have tools that make it easy to see what the taxability will be for a product in a particular state.
TaxJar had a limited number of products covered when we assessed their product. Their API did appear to be cleaner than Vertex's, and other options Sovos did appear to have a good number of tax codes; however, their pricing and APIs were not as good as Vertex's. Avalara, at the time of assessment, didn't have the customization that we needed.
