By leveraging shared hardware resources ESXi eliminates the need of bare metal machines for different servers/applications and provides a stable infrastructure that you can count on.

ESXi is becoming industry standard and with range of certifications to excel your skills in VMware [and] open doors to great opportunities.
VMware products knowledge space makes it easier to implement, use, and troubleshoot the products specially ESXi as the popularity of this software is sky high.
Personally, it helps me a lot setting up LAB's for certifications, proof of concept or even just to try a new application/OS/software.
