If you need an ecommerce, email marketing and affiliate program - it is great to have this all in one solution. Larger businesses with many employees in remote locations may need a different solution. If you do not need ecommerce or affiliate, you can use a lower cost program that costs less. The learning curve is short for a solo entrepreneur with some technical knowledge.

Pros

  • Access to contact information and creating customer profiles - good for reaching out through customer service, accessing email address, address and detailed information on the client helpful for responding quickly and easily
  • Able to add products and programs through auto responders - able to help share information with different groups of people easily and based on specific options within 1ShoppingCart
  • Easy to create coupon codes and pass to customers or add to website or newsletter for specific time ranges and products
  • Simple to add different products and sell easily with the integrated shopping cart
  • Great tool for multiple users to use and work as a virtual team based on different tasks and range that 1ShoppingCart has
  • Ability to create detailed reports based on sales, customers, and so much more. Very helpful for planning.
  • Flexible. You can change anything you want, easily. If it's design, you can change it via your template. If it's language, Loco Translate. If it's a theme, just buy one for $40. If it's something more particular, you can probably do it via functions.php.
  • Amazing community. You can find LOTS of groups where they can give you advice on what to choose, help, benchmarks, etc. Even though the software isn't impressive, because it's Wordpress you have a lot of support and a huge community.
  • Lots of plugins, themes and devs. One of the benefits of that is how easy and cheap it is to get help. You want a template? Use Themeforest and you get 10,000 for $20.
  • Great integration with static content. Because it's part of Wordpress, it's obvious how to create static content. For landing pages, blog posts, etc. you can play with Slider Revolution or WP Bakery Visual Composer and solve a lot of issues quickly.
  • Integration with payment providers. It's similar to my third point, but important as well.

Cons

  • I found their customer service team to be confusing with their responses and not as helpful as other products customer service teams. It can be frustrating to try to decipher their responses to more complicated questions and often felt a little 'annoying' whenever I needed to reach out.
  • When creating newsletters, I found the WYSIWYG (what you see if what you get) version of creating newsletters the formatting was almost always off which always resulted in needing to send tests to myself to fix the formatting because it never showed up as it would look when it was sent. That took a lot of extra time to edit.
  • Lots of different options with reports, as a beginner you may need someone else to support you. In the beginning I needed support from other team members in how to understand and create certain reports. Not the most intuitive and user friendly until you understand what you're doing!
  • Scalability is an issue. It all depends, but some queries are slow and with over 10,000 products you can suffer. It can be fixed (we did) but it isn't out of the box.
  • Coupons and codes is very poorly implemented. There are extensions for that, but again, out of the box isn't great.
  • Database performance in general is not amazing. You can optimize, but for larger stores (+2,000 products) you'll need to invest some time in optimizing.
  • Shipping options. This is so weirdly implemented. We fixed it with a plugin (not that easy) but if you want to offer multiple shipping options, based on weight or volume, you might need to spend some time.

Likelihood to Renew

If I were in charge of the renewal decision I would really take a look at 1SC vs. Infusionsoft. There are many ways each are great and many ways they are different. I would look at what was best for my company and make the choice accordingly. I find that Infusionsoft has many more ways to intuitively market, segment and cultivate new leads and grow the business as a whole than 1SC currently has.

Our site is working exceptionally well, it's easy to use, and works well for our clients. There's no reason to change anything.

I gave it lots of points for being a simple product that instantly gives you a store. Very intuitive and simple for the client to update or implement. Loses LOTS of points when you want to do anything besides just sell stuff (coupons, etc) then it makes you pay big money for the add-ons and makes it difficult and time-intensive to develop your own.

Alternatives Considered

1SC was chosen years ago for the companies I've used it for. At that point they were one of the only companies offering this kind of service. The ability to have customers all in one place, have opt-ins to keep building the list and ability to add hundreds of products and programs and add these to the website are all reasons the company continues to use 1SC
Nine times out of ten it came down to ease of use and ease of deployment. So many people have experience with WordPress these days, that basing the site on that platform just made sense - and WooCommerce is a logical extension from there. My clients found the competing platforms either not customizable for their needs without incurring a significant expense, or too technical/simplistic. WooCommerce lands right in the middle of that.

Return on Investment

  • Better ability to gather information quickly for customers to support in the customer service response time
  • Faster lead conversion
  • Ability for multiple users to use the product under different user names so the team can work on different projects at once
  • Unless you know HTML the newsletters can take some time to be formatted correctly based on other programs
  • We improved our Conversion Rate by 200% by switching. This is not only because we switched: it's because of the amount of changes and personalization we were able to make for our particular industry.
  • We improved our landing pages and it's much easier to maintain (via Visual Composer and Slider Revolution) compared to our previous Magento.
  • We have been able to make changes MUCH faster. In a day or two we revamped our product listing page, we added banners across the whole site, we changed our checkout... you get the point.
