Likelihood to Recommend

Access Legal (DPS Software Spitfire)

If your business requires billing and invoicing on a regular basis, then this is the software for you. Other than this, you can use it for file sharing with your colleagues and team members, but if you require an ideal software which has great UI then it will not reach up-to your expectations.

Amicus Attorney

Amicus Attorney can probably be deployed very well in a law office that has a manager specifically dedicated to making it run smoothly, and who can keep track of the contacts, etc. In our firm, no one can spend the time to do this, so the information stored by Amicus gets a little disorganized, which has the effect of slowing us down

Cons

Access Legal (DPS Software Spitfire)

  • It’s graphs are hard to read and don’t have as many features as it’s competitors.
  • Not as user-friendly or intuitive as other options.

Amicus Attorney

  • Subscription based only, formerly allowed "ownership" of software with annual maintenance agreement. Software has moved to a monthly subscription where one "leases" the software from the owner, Abacus.
  • Software stability, can occasionally have server-level issues that require cycling of services in order to restore connectivity.
  • Exchange calendar sync does not warn users that sync is not occurring. After updating Active Directory password, password needs updated in Amicus Attorney. Problem being, it does not remind / alert if the synchronization is not occurring.

Alternatives Considered

Access Legal (DPS Software Spitfire)

Every software has its pros and cons but Access Legal has more pros than cons as it has integrated all the requirements of customers. I can get everything on the same platform from billing to invoicing, to reply[ing] to the customers and sending auto reply. Everything is there, so it is good.

Amicus Attorney

Actionstep is a true cloud-based Practice Management system. Actionstep is superior to Amicus in every aspect, more customizable, more fully featured and better sales/support resources. It is unfortunate what has happened to Amicus, which appears to be based on someone's greed being the driving force today, instead of innovation, honesty and caring about their product.

  • Communication with coworkers.

  • Communication with clients.
  • Filters a lot of spam.

Amicus Attorney

  • There is no real way to quantify this; we use Amicus every single day to call/email clients and other business contacts, and we use it to keep track of our billable hours. Without it or something like it, our business would not function the way it does.
