RUN Powered by ADP® vs. BambooHR vs. Paylocity

As a small business with 50 employees, we were looking for a straightforward, reliable payroll system. ADP has fulfilled that goal for us. RUN Powered by ADP® offers a range of core payroll features, including automated tax calculations and compliance support, which are essential for our smaller organization. It allows us to have our payroll done by the office manager and not have to incur the added expense of hiring a payroll specialist.

I have found that using BambooHR for recruiting has helped cut my company's recruiting budget down. I don't find BambooHR good for payroll, since we already use a company we trust. I wish our hour-tracking software integrated with or connected to BambooHR; otherwise, employees worry they aren't receiving their PTO.

Consistent and ongoing issues with time and labor, payroll, benefits, and a lack of care and sense of urgency from the account manager and Paylocity staff in general when issues do arise. Every time an issue is fixed within the system, it seems that something else then begins to malfunction. 2026 specifically, there have been numerous issues with the time-off feature for both the employees and the HR Team.

• Payroll - running weekly payroll is easy and can be done from anywhere.
• Reporting - Whether it is PTO or tax forms, reporting is critical. I like the favorites section too, for frequently run reports.
• Background checks - the basic reporting provides a sense of relief that your new people are okay. It is easy to navigate.

• When I need assistance, calling the help line is easy, and most of the time there isn't a long wait. Also, they can and do call back if necessary. I have had Zoom meetings to address issues that required more than just a phone call.
• Tracking taxes and filing reports is truly important to us so that we file in a timely manner and avoid penalties and interest. We incurred many penalties when we were using QuickBooks.
• Keeping track of employee documents such as I-9 forms along with visas, work authorizations, resident cards, driver's licenses, and certifications is easy and in one location.
• With Paylocity, we can easily see who filled out applications. Previously, we used paper applications, which were more manual and involved looking through actual paperwork. This was hard to manage.

• I do wish there were additional custom deductions available rather than a limited amount.
• Sometimes employees have trouble accessing their account after the initial invite has been sent.
• Sometimes employee accounts get locked due to a reused email if their profile is deleted before they've signed up. Only a call to support can correct it.

It is much better than the payroll system I used previously. The integrations that RUN has for on-boarding new hires are very convenient when they work properly. It saves a tremendous amount of time being able to email a link to new employees that allows them to enter much of their own demographic information. Payroll feature alerts me when someone's pay is significantly less or more than usual.

There's nothing wrong with this platform. I would recommend it to any business starting with more than 10 employees. I will continue to use the program for as long as I need to, hoping they continue being tremendous and finding other ways to incorporate more technology.

The system is easy to use. I love the knowledge base system offered, I can answer many of my questions by looking here first before calling in. If i do have to call in to the help desk, everyone seems to be super knowledgably about the Paylocity Product and if they are unable to assist, which rarely happens, they will escalate my call to the next level of assistance

I have been using this system for years and they have actually made it easier and easier. The system is always making great upgrades that don't necessarily require any additional information or training. I love when I log in and see a new feature or button that I get to use to make my life easier!

The interface is so user-friendly for admins and employees. I've never seen another HRIS this easy to use, on both a computer and a mobile device. It's clean, intuitive, warm, and powerful. In the 5 years I've used it, I haven't had a single employee complain that Bamboo is confusing or hard to navigate.

I would say that these 2 factors are the biggest contributors to the rating that I have given. The app is still buggy; I gave up on it after not being able to clock in 3 times. Also, the Firefox unavailability. I had to give up the Firefox browser in order for me to sign my contract and use Paylocity. If they are able to address those 2 issues then it should be a perfect 10.

Yes, there is a huge team in the back of the online platform or it looks like it because I have never been left without an answer when I have a question or waiting from a response on my chat .... There must be a huge team, this is so great and I always seem to have someone that is very knowledgeable too. So many times in the past I had to leave with customer service that would connect you with someone else because of the expertise, here everyone seems to be some kind of an expert in the HR function.

Over the last 3 years, we've only had one major service issue that rendered Airbase unusable for us for about 24 hours. That said, they navigated the SVB bank crisis very well and made sure funds were available during that time.

ADP Run loads a bit slowly at times, once I put in my credentials. However, that said, I think my perception of the time it takes is impacted by our "instant gratification" expectation of being able to get into everything quickly.

I love BambooHR. Reports are easy to run and download and it usually covers any types of requests I get from the management team. You get excel or .csv downloads/reports and it is fast and simple, not too crowded so it is easy to read through. We don't integrate the tool yet but again, soon we will. we just did not had the time to utilize it yet but that's the plan.

We had some minor hiccups throughout the year but they have all been fixable. Paylocity integrates well with our 401k provider, Principal, and our benefits, OneDigital. It makes it simple to house everything and have it all connected. It doesn't slow anything down to have Principal integrated. It makes it more efficient

I appreciated having that issue finally take care of. it was extremely disheartening to see the issue had not been resolved. I also had my employees looking to me and thinking I was not trying to resolve the issue so it reflected poorly on my character. I don't think they have ever figured out an issue for me, and chat support has team activities when I need them. I don't know how that is possible, but I rarely use the feature and, when I try during the posted business hours, they are not available. I've contacted support to get help with applications that were coming in without required information, like salary, even though the salary requirement was toggled on. I reached out on July 24th and received this response on Aug 12, after we had found someone for the position and closed that job posting. This is the response: "The specialists reviewed the backend logs and noticed that there were several edits made to the application questions during the time in question. This could have impacted the required status of the salary field and allowed candidates to submit their applications without filling it out. If you notice this issue again in the future, please let us know right away so we can investigate further and ensure everything is working as expected." They ask me to reach out "right away" when I notice something amiss. If you go back to your records, I believe you will find that there was an employee activity on July 24th, which is when I noticed the issue and reached out immediately, and there was no one available to assist for three days.

I have contacted support on several occasions, mostly for assistance with voiding a check and running an off-cycle payroll. The account managers and support team were all very knowledgeable and helpful. They provided great insight and clarity in answering my questions and helping me navigate these processes. I learn something new and helpful each time I speak with them! On a separate note, we have reported technical issues regarding several Paylocity onboarding tasks since this past year. We have reached out several times regarding these issues, but are still waiting for a resolution. It seems sometimes that technical concerns are reported, with no proper solution or follow-up.

I didn't have in-person training, but I'm sure it was just as great as any other training/assistance Paylocity provides. Paylocity customer service is always available. You never have to be on hold and their answers are always accurate and timely. Documents in the help section are helpful as well. My in-person training was conducted y one of our employees who was involved in the initial set-up and training of all employees. She was excellent.

Overall this training was great and our implementation specialist was wonderful and very helpful. We felt really prepared once our training was completed, But we could get additional help immediately even when we were live. The continuation Support heros after implementation are wonderful and you can always get a LIVE person each time you call into their office.

It was virtually, click orange button in top right corner, click run report, hit submit. The training was minimal at best. I did not know what I was doing, so I just wrote down the steps, so when they steps failed I had no idea what to do, where I was in the process, What the terms mean or where to find them. When I had questions it was always the same answers, no understanding for WHAT I was doing when I hit the orange button.

The implementation of the system was easy. I was given the time frames and was assisted with the first payroll

We implemented bambooHR in Fall, 2023 then implemented Payroll 1/1/24. A vital piece of information was not known or missed in that we are exempt from State Unemployment Tax and have a Reimbursement Set-up, so bambooHR did not send Payroll Reports to the State. Those reports need to be sent regardless if we are exempt or not.

Implementation was a bit bumpy and Paylocity team not always available for next steps and/or questions. Paychex was the last company we were using before the switch. We had so many issues that we could not get resolved that I had contacted corporate twice. They had our out of state payroll taxes so messed up that we wound up getting our bank account frozen for non-payment. It was really bad and I have had absolutely no issues with RUN Powered by ADP® since the switch.

Bamboo HR's user interface is better than the alternative products listed above. It is easier to scroll through tabs and navigate different sections and reports. You do not need to train your team members to use Bamboo HR. This saves time on training. The user interface of other products listed above is not as simple and clean as Bamboo HR.

We switched from QuickBooks because Paylocity offers more than just payroll. It combines payroll, time tracking, HR, benefits, and employee self-service in one system. This has helped us reduce manual work, improve reporting, and make payroll more efficient. Overall, Paylocity was a better fit for our company's growth and HR needs.

Since my organization has dropped with employees, I always find ways to reduce costs. I thought there would be a cheaper option, but I was glad that my package included a lot for the price, and downgrading would cost more. Every summer, we hire three new college interns who have to be entered into the system. They can enter their information themselves, which takes a load off me. The onboarding is quite straightforward, and today's college kids are techy enough to be able to understand it.

There is so much you can do with this platform, it is incredible and so welcoming. Some are knowledgable others not as much and sometimes instead of helping you fix the issue will just give you some directions and expect you to try to figure it out yourself. Also, when your Account Manager needs to escliate the issue to another group, it can take a long time for them to get to your issue and there's no commuication.

• The time savings alone is worth the cost. I went from having to spend 3 - 4 full business days on payroll to about 1.
• Being able to look all employee data up in one place is a lifesaver and time saver - even outside of the office if I need to access information quickly it is all just a sign in away.
• It has saved significant time and reduced confusion related to onboarding. Everyone is able to see what stage an employee is at, I do not need to worry about employees potentially working for us illegally thanks to eVerify, and I am always assured that all required documentation for regulatory purposes has been obtained prior to employment beginning.
