If your organization has a lot of archival data that it needs to be backed up for safekeeping, where it won't be touched except in a dire emergency, Amazon Glacier is perfect. In our case, we had a client that generates many TB of video and photo data at annual events and wanted to retain ALL of it, pre- and post- edit for potential use in a future museum. Using the Snowball device, we were able to move hundreds of TB of existing media data that was previously housed on multiple Thunderbolt drives, external RAIDs, etc, in an organized manner, to Amazon Glacier. Then, we were able to setup
on their production computers to continually backup any new media that they generated during their annual events.

Cohesity has been awesome. The performance (speed) that it has been able to provide has actually given me back time every month. I have to test my backups monthly, and the Cloning process that Cohesity has available from it's backup has given me days back each month. It just a few minutes I can have VMs restored for testing and documentation. This took a couple days with the previous vendor.
Read full review Pros Cheap storage of backup data. Can be used as a part of the entire suite of tools from Amazon, without requiring you to leave the familiar stack. Read full review Ease of use - the platform is simple to manage and does not require a lot of daily care and feeding by my administrators Reliable - the platform is able to protect my workloads reliably without a lot of backup failures Great support - the Cohesity team has been a partner to us throughout our use of the solution, taking our feedback and implementing it as improvements to the platform. Innovative - the Cohesity team is consistently working to improve the product and add new capabilities. Read full review Cons Accessing data stored in Glacier is slow. That shouldn't be a surprise, but it is undesirable nonetheless. Retrieving a large amount of data can be expensive; Glacier's intended use is as an archive of rarely-accessed data. Some users regard Glacier with fear and uncertainty. Slow retrieval time and high retrieval cost are the greatest risks of using Glacier, and they are also the Glacier interaction that most users have the least experience with. Some tasks that could be brought to the UI that today we have to call support on (for example when an NFS mount is still active but we cannot see it from the UI) Read full review Likelihood to Renew
We have been very pleased with this backup solution. It is fast and reliable, and supports our VMware infrastructure. The company's support has been great, including proactively replacing our nodes when the flash memory was reporting high wear. Support is offered on-shore as well. We plan on continuing to use this product for the foreseeable future.

It is difficult to delete the data as you have to wait for inventory and then bucket modification has to expire.

Product was a one afternoon initial setup.

Support is quick to respond but lacks that ongoing responsiveness if the issue is not simple. There will be large gaps in replies if they need to resort to escalation and when there are timezone differences between yourself and the person who picked up the ticket.

Since the rest of our infrastructure is in Amazon AWS, coding for sending data to Glacier just makes sense. The others are great as well, for their specific needs and uses, but having *another* third-party software to manage, be billed for, and learn/utilize can be costly in money and time.

IBM is good but it´s old and really big and not easy to manage. And the License fees and so are worth it. Veeam I have a look on and 4 years ago I selected Cohesity because it was easier to manage, dedup was better and it is one hyperconverged infrastructure.
is or was similar to Cohesity. But they are not so good in Data management on the boxes
Read full review Return on Investment Helped us meet compliance requirements while minimizing costs. Simple integration with almost no changes required to our existing S3 management policies. Read full review It has freed up 40 hours a month of our service desk staff since they were able to stop focusing so intently on tape management. We have gained time back on the engineers since they are not working tickets 10 hours a week just on backup issues. Read full review ScreenShots
