Anaconda

It eats everything and everything has a wrapper or API for it. Python is lingua franca by now, more than Java.

Qlik Sense

Qlik Sense is an excellent product for analyzing and especially viewing your data on a variety of devices thanks to its responsive design. Qlik Sense also has many excellent features for managing and preparing your data.
A scenario where you might want to consider using QlikView instead of Qlik Sense would be where you have a large number of reports that users require. At the present time in this scenario you might be better off using the container object within QlikView or deciding whether or not you can reduce the number of reports
and still use Qlik Sense.

Pros

  • Anaconda (i.e. Python with lots of packages and the fabulous iPython/Jupyter Notebook) does analytics well. In analytics, or "data science" or whatever buzzword, you have to pick your poison: Python, R, or SAS. Python is the only one that's good at doing other things as well.
  • Like the visualization...The quality of the built-in types of scientific visualization in Python vs. R and their aesthetics is up for grabs. However, Python can do a whole lot of different kinds of visualization above and beyond R. Similarly, JavaScript probably can do more/better visualization than Python, but it's not meant for analytics. Anaconda has enough visualization packages to get you started.

  • User Interface - Easy to navigate and play across the dashboard, its charts and objects are like floating things like a bubble which is well suited for an official purpose
  • Connect Different Data Sources - with the help of various connectors QlikSense connects Database like Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, etc
  • Security - It provides security in application level as well as data level

Cons

  • It's still a little buggy. Especially the launcher.
  • It's not always easy to set up. It's not exactly difficult: a Google search away for most things, but silly stuff like path names, installing custom fonts and colors. That kind of thing.

  • NO horizontal and/or vertical scrollbars. Period. Not implemented. This means very little data could be shown on a single sheet.
  • NO adjustment of the SIZE of the fonts and controls. Functionality never implemented in Qliksense (out of the box as of v. 3.1). This means very little data could be shown on a single sheet.
  • You can not rename a bookmark, you can not change the order of bookmarks. This is a functionality that the end user works directly..
  • Each and every control is "dumbed down" (vs the corresponding Qlikview implementation). This means that each anything is kept out of the product (to make product more maintainable and to provide rendering on mobile platforms). Example: List Box. You can not change the search mode (in qlikview you could make it a wild card search or expression driven search out of the box).
  • "Current Selections" control removed. This is the main control in qlikview, that shows the context of the filtering for the user.
  • The script is not 100% compatible vs. Qlikview. References to files, supported in Qlikview are different (have to be modified).
  • Qliksense App V.3.1 freezes, then crashes on me 2-3 times a day (Win.7, 64 bit, SSD drive). It does not instill confidence in the product. Qliksense cloud based (accessed via browser) never crashed on me.

All controls are simplified and dumbed down. A lot of functionality is lost (vs. QlikView).

Simple story. I tried both. Canopy felt somehow unintuitive to use.

Return on Investment

  • We save a lot of programming time, since all the add-ons are in the same environment.
  • Being multiplatform, Anaconda is perfect for work teams with many people, since it supports all operating systems.
  • The only negative thing that can happen is that at first, the way of working in Anaconda can be a bit confusing. Once passed the learning period, its daily use is very comfortable.

  • Reducing time on decision making process
