Apttus CPQ excels for complex contract and/or complex pricing requirements. If your business has simple pricing rules, a less full featured solution may be more appropriate.Apttus CPQ is an easy system to administer, using the same object logic as the Salesforce platform.We implemented Apttus for virtually all of our sales representative processes, and in doing so found that we virtually eliminated speculative ordering.

Oracle Sales Cloud

Oracle Sales Cloud seems well suited for organizations not ready to jump into the salesforce.com ocean. It allows for customization and is far more user-friendly than older platforms (i.e., CRM On Demand), but it doesn't seem to fully account for all groups within the company (i.e., lack of an actual campaign object).

  • Tracks contract status. It's basically a time stamping function and hard to mess up.

Cons

  • The administration burden is very high. There are a lot of objects included and they link to each other.
  • If all you are looking for is quoting, then it’s I feel that it’s overkill today.
  • In hindsight, I would have hired a developer to customize Salesforce.com. A step up from the basic Salesforce.com functionality is what we really need.
  • There were a couple of solution options in between customizing Salesforce.com and Apttus, but they weren’t able to do configurable bundles and handle our pricing.
  • Frankly, our needs have simplified from our original search.

Tier1/tier 2 support can only handle native functionality. Customizations have to be escalated to developers which aren’t included in the support program.

I go ahead and copy the people I directly worked with on implementation for assistance. I would rate them an 8 for support assistance.

Be iterative. Take the opportunity to build a catalog based on how Apttus works well. Learn the tool yourself or use an SI. Take the time to build a configuration / pricing migration tool with X-Author for Excel or roll your own. Stick with OOTB Apttus as any customization will cost you every time a new version is released

I have worked with X2CRM and have been exposed to Accelo, Salesforce and MS Dynamics. I feel Oracle Sales Cloud is the standard to be met for SMB customers looking to scale quickly and efficiently. I believe it is the best solution for Mid-market and enterprise customer because of Territory Management, mobile capabilities, and reporting tools alone make it hard to beat.

  • Reporting is great with Apttus, fast approval and less time for the quote to get out the door in the hands of a customer.
  • DocuSign integration allows for seamless experience for the rep
  • Synchronization with opportunities allow for easy forecasting

  • Reduces inefficiency in the sales process and shortens the deal cycle.
  • User adaption can be a struggle if management doesn't provide a user-friendly solution. If your team doesn't use the system or use it properly, you've basically bought a race car to use in the driveway.
  • The ability of teams to communicate effectively and efficiently on specific leads, opportunities, contacts, activities, or custom objects is powerful. The individual time saved is difficult to quantify, but can be seen in shorter deal cycles.
