ASG-Remote Desktop

Best for users that have many desktops or servers they need to login to. Great in my environment of multiple clients and the need for fast login and resolution of their issue. If you have a large infrastructure or multiple clients, this is a product you need!

VMware Fusion

Snapshots are great, set up is easy, pulling in previous VMs is also very easy. For the most part, Windows VMs run well through VMWare Fusion on Macs, but I have personally run into issues where a VM will become corrupt and I can no longer use it. I haven't really seen this issue with users, as their VMs are simpler than mine. Also, sometimes Windows can run a little slowly through VMware Fusion.

Pros

  • Organize remote desktop connections
  • Provide easy and fast connections
  • Backup and restore configurations
Tina Cline profile photo
  • Lightweight desktop hypervisor. Less invasive into the system than the main competitor.
  • Good performance. I don't notice VMs being any slower than the native OS.
  • Conveniently integrates with VMware ESXi servers. Good for working with standalone servers.

Alternatives Considered

ASG-Remote is very flexible and with so many options available it makes the configuration you want for your setup super simple. Other products do not offer the extra features for database and reporting. As well, it offers all the connection types you can possibly think of. The ability to automate tasks for regular servers and workstations is amazing!

VMware Fusion works much better for us because of the migration capabilities. We use VMware vSphere and the migration/conversion is seamless. Some of the other virtualization application do not covert or migrate VMs onto other platforms as easily.

Return on Investment

  • Simple use and easy to set up
  • Fast connections means faster service to your clients/users
  • Easy to share across other users for connections
Tina Cline profile photo
  • It saves time in testing network configurations and allows you to spend less money to test certain kinds of setups.
  • It's not difficult to set up and is pretty user friendly.
  • Customers see a value of using it to dual boot operating systems without having to do a native setup.
