Blackbaud is currently offering the first six months of Financial Edge NXT free for new customers. Limited conditions apply.
just Financial Edge... DUE TO STUDENT BILLING SUNSETTING, WE NOW USE SCHOOL ADMIN FOR ADMISSIONS, ENROLLMENT AND BILLING [WHICH WERE ONCE ALL DONE THROUGH BLACKBAUD]
Our school decided as a whole to upgrade, the Financial Edge NXT was just for our business office. What we were sold on, is not available in NXT right now. I still have to currently use Blackbaud hosting services for efficiency and accuracy without the back and forth …
We did not evaluate other comparable products, we were hosted with FE 9, so beginning to explore the features and uses of Financial Edge NXT was a logical next step.
PeachTree Accounting Software which we discontinued because of the batching and it now having "real time". Red Wing Controller was extremely user friendly and I generally recommend that to constituents. QuickBooks was another option used by our sister company and it was able …
I've used other small programs in previous jobs. They were fine as well. I don't know if any of them were much better or worse. But the linking to RE NXT makes it the best for us. Without RE, I don't know if we'd go for it necessarily.
I had used Oracle in previous positions. While it is robust, I feel Financial Edge NXT has a better GUI and also more features/functionality that is easier to use. Being a smaller organization it fits our needs better. We did review over 11 software providers and chose …
NBS has been using Blackbaud's Financial Edge since the late 1990s, Blackbaud's donor management software for nearly as long, and their student information system for the past five years. It would be unbelievably difficult and complex to switch to another financial package.
We were using QuickBooks prior to Financial Edge and they do not compare in the least. QuickBooks does not have the capability or the scalability that we needed in order to prepare our organization for growth. Financial Edge allowed us the freedom to grow without increasing the …
We previously used QuickBooks and while we were comfortable with the functionality and ease of use, we chose to move forward with Financial Edge and then the NXT version because of the integration with the other modules and being able to link all of the data together to reduce …
More flexibility when it comes to number or tracking options (project, dept, etc). QuickBooks is a good solution for small organizations but we had outgrown it (but still use if for our offices overseas).
Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is great for an independent/private school. It integrates well with enrollment and student information systems sold by Blackbaud. For example, you could send data from the student information system straight into the Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT. The caveat of course is that you would need to be using other Blackbaud products to leverage this integration. However, all Blackbaud products utilize open APIs so with a little programming, one can share data across many systems.
Uploading and inputting information is easy due to a clear format and outline.
Researching and finding past information is quick and easy to navigate due to searching and filtering options as well as the ability to name the files for quick searches.
Pulling project titles and accounts - you can have a large amount of projects and accounts and are able to know them through the system without having to memorize each individual title.
Being able to export a general ledger for an account to excel while still being formatted correctly.
Having the ability to filter in what transactions are pulled in the general ledger. You are able to easily look at all the activity or only activity in a certain time frame or other specific filters.
There is always access to help from Blackbaud services for any sort of difficulty.
Learning and the ability to attend Blackbaud classes are readily and easily available so you can increase your knowledge and ability to serve well in your organizations' role.
Customer service blames the customer, and never offers solutions other than "wait it out." I've always been told it's my computer, even though everyone else at my work has the same issues.
Website is constantly "under maintenance" and it somehow never gets better.
The Database View is outdated and glitchy. Honestly get rid of it.
The Crystal Report is the only way to handle monthly recurring statements, and Financial Edge does not offer support for it anymore. Good luck figuring that out on your own.
BB seems to forcing changes on customers at a faster rate. This company needs stability because it is understaffed in accounting. There isn't time to drop everything and work up workarounds or even try to judge effects. There also isn't the time to find a replacement suite unless things get really bad.
I don't have much to compare it to but if I speak of just the reporting options; sometimes there are so many options I spend more time finding the "perfect" report when a basic report with minimal columns is needed. But I know I can always add to the report if asked.
No one is perfect, but this support team is as close as it gets. They respond promptly and if the person I'm talking to doesn't have the answer they find someone that does. They also provide documentation and/or resources to support their responses to my questions. The online chat is awesome and usually all I need
I would give this a zero if I could. Here's the deal. Once you request a chat with a representative, they immediately respond. So responsiveness: 10/10. However, they have a tendency to (always) tell you that whatever problem you're experiencing is your problem, not theirs. They offer no solutions and never take responsibility for their website malfunctioning
The implementation can be easy depending on how familiar you are with Blackbaud products. It is cloud based so there is not a need for IT involvement but you do need to know your business requirement.
Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is far superior to CYMA. We used CYMA for over 20 years. It was tough to transition because Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT follows GAAP, while CYMA did not the way we had it set up. Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT has more robust fund tracking and allows us to create custom reports.
The reporting features that include unposted entries and can be run on-demand to see a year to date budget comparison, have certainly made it easier to stay on task and within budget.
We have been able to integrate some of the fundraising features into Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT; consolidating to one system for tracking all key financial parameters, has been invaluable.
The budget partner (Zai?) is absolutely terrible and a huge waste of time and money; it does not integrate as advertised and is constantly "broken/down" on our end. It is not as advertised and honestly shouldn't be promoted by Blackbaud - it's that terrible.
Like any enterprise software, there are costs/investments ahead of return. It isn't something you would implement without support.
During the significant financial downturn, we were able to use FE to forecast trends and make budget adjustments easily. It transformed communication about forecasting and cuts with assurance.
