Any scenario where you need to track time spent on projects or by customer. The customization of setup means it should work for almost any type of customer. We utilize the software to track time spent on projects, support, sales, customer service and software development.

TSheets
TSheets is first and foremost a clock-in, clock-out app. This is how they started and they have this mastered. This feature can be used by any company, anywhere in the world. It generates quick payroll reports and has saved us A LOT of time in calculating payroll. It also allows us to have more accurate payroll numbers. We rely on TSheets for scheduling staff for shifts in our event company. The schedule allows us to categorize events by type and add detailed notes. It also sends shift reminders to staff and allows for quick clock-in for such shifts. I suspect this would be really helpful for a restaurant or any other company that needs specific staff in specific places or roles at different times. The scheduler would be less helpful for companies that have 8-5 employees that don't need specific, per shift information.

Pros
Toggl
- Lightweight interface. It is very simple to start and stop tracking.
- Categorization, tags, projects, and clients. Make it easy to categorize time tracking and pull accurate reports
- Reporting: their reporting system makes it simple to slice and dice our tracked data to get precisely the intel we need.

TSheets
- Support (their help desk team is incredibly helpful and always quick to respond).
- Ease of access and use (the app is user-friendly an intuitive, and the desktop version is equally as approachable).
- Manager functionality (it's useful to be able to clock employees in and out at multiple events on the same day by sorting them into different groups by manager/event).

Cons
Toggl
- When I generate a report based on a long date range (as opposed to a single day or week), Toggl provides logged time entries per project, user, or client, according to my search. Each time entry in the report is itemized and includes a description. However, the date and time per entry is not generated with this data. When I create invoices, I have to manually find what day the work was done.

TSheets
- I'm not sure if this is an option and we just don't have it on our version, but I don't know how to change a single punch. If I forget to punch out (or punch in) I can only edit the "total hours" for the day and it deletes all punch history for that day. If it would be possible to just change the one mistake punch that would be ideal.
- As a user, it doesn't show my PTO total (that could be an admin user portion on our end).
- It would be helpful to be able to record "start mileage" and "end mileage" so we could track the total mileage for the week for both property managers and maintenance.

TSheets tech support people, like Shawn Sommer, from Tsheets. She has been instrumental, after terminating the person in charge of TSheets I was left with a learning curve too high to climb but after 10 mins of her instructions I was able to make payroll in no time. She cleared all errors that nobody had fixed before.
TSheets is not a vendor for me, TSheets is my partner in business. Thank you TSheets.

Our employees find TSheets easy to use and spend minimal time at reporting hours using it. As an administrator and user of the TSheets "data and information" I am extremely positive on the functionality and reporting that it has provided me. From its ease of set-up to training to reporting, TSheets has made us so much more efficient from an administration standpoint

I haven't needed much support from Toggl, as it's mostly come from a small team trying out the tool. I'm not entirely sure what the best way to reach them would be if I did need them. I'm also not sure how responsive they would be to support requests. But I think it's positive that I have not needed them

I have never failed to have an issue resolved within minutes of contacting Support. Jen D recently assisted my with an export issue and I was back on track in less the 10 minutes. She was knowledgable and thought about the current and future contexts of the issue and assured there would be no recurrence next payroll.

Alternatives Considered
Toggl
Toggl is sleeker and so much more user-friendly than Time Doctor. The Chrome extension with the intuitive power button icon really does increase compliance, which I think is one of the most important, and sometimes overlooked, considerations when choosing a new software for your team. If people won't use it, it doesn't really matter if it's more affordable and even more highly recommended.

I like Toggl, but it is a better product for in-house teams, small companies, and personal productivity. TSheets is better for remote teams and project management. Toggl is missing (in the free version) GPS features. For the low cost, TSheets provides the start/stop features we like in Toggl but offers GPS for the remote team.

Return on Investment
Toggl
- We replaced our in-house time tracking tool easily
- We could incorporate the previous few months of tracking via CSV/Spreadsheet import
- We still don't have the full discipline to track everything for everybody. It's only as good as the data you put in.

TSheets
- As a Microsoft Access software development shop, Help4Access could have built ourselves a time tracking system, but why reinvent the wheel?
- tSheets got us out of spreadsheets and into the cloud in days not months.
- The ROI the first year is over $5,000.
