Prior experience with the product was the single most important deciding factor in the purchase and use of Arena. I've used Arena for 17+ years and I've experienced all of the improvements and new product features Arena has made over the years. I like the fact that they reach out to the users and ask for input. I like that they implement enhancements at least a couple of times a year. Their support team is the best, very responsive and helpful. I've used other PLM solutions and I've heard of others where the administrator of those systems have issues that they would not have using Arena.

Arena has a diversified list of rich features needed for a good PLM system: quality, product collaboration, file sharing, etc. Price is also an attractive factor. It allows us to remain cost effective, while developing scalable processes as we grow.

We were looking for a way to track product revisions and engineering changes. I think the product usability was the most important. This is a relatively easy system to implement and it provided what we essentially needed for moving the Business forward. Most of the people that need to use the system were trained quickly.

I have been involved in multiple implementations of PLM tools. The product usability and the customization of the tool that can be completed by the customer is key. I did not have to pay a consultant to make the changes I needed to use Arena. I was trained to make the changes myself and I can continue to modify and improve the product as I see fit, and not have to hire a contractor to come in and make the modifications for me.

I was not the one to decide to buy the software. The person who decided had used it before and wanted to use it for documents, BOMs, and training.

When we signed on with Arena in 2002, clearly cost was the single most important factor - especially for our company size of approximately 20 at the time. Arena has grown with us since then... to more sites... with many additional product features as well.

It was really a combination of Cost and Functonality. Half the Engineering team had experience with Agile and the other half with Parts & Vendors. We needed to be able to access the Agile data as there were 8 years of information and designs in it. Agile was too expensive. Arena hit the sweet spot for us. I am much happier with Arena and the control we have than I was with Agile.

Arena is run by many former Agile employees...which used to be the de-facto standard in the PLM Market. These people know what is needed by the marketplace and their customers.

Features is number 1, with usability classified as a feature. We wanted an easy-to-use system for all our engineering data to be stored and controlled, that could expand with a fast-growing business.

The single most important factor in the decision with using Arena is the traceability factor given the regulations associated with the medical device industry. Documentation is often lost if managed via hard copy and with the ability to manage quality records electronically via Arena, it takes a great burden off internal and external audits.
