We used it as a mean of patch management for Mircosoft and 3rd party patching for our environment. In my opinion, it is rather clunky focues more on pretty graphs and pages than on funtionality or simplicity.
  • It was a lot less expensive than the others we were looking at but, in my opinion, also a lot less user friendly. You get what you pay for
  • No increase in visibility of asset management when compared against our older KACE management system.
In my opinion, it was not intuitive to ensure all computers were being patched on time or properly with both OS and 3rd party patches. Tech Support was responsive but, in my experience, the amount of time taken to remediate the issues we had were one of the key factors for us deciding canceling our licenses.
I think yall focused more on pretty graphics than actually ensuring things were being patched- even with the built in OS and 3rd party systems that Automox has on hand were still hit or miss as to whether or not a computer received the needed updates. In my experience, there was no discernable pattern as to which computers failed or why or how to keep it from happening.
In my opinion, PDQ Deploy is better than yall and at a much better price point. We selected Automox last year because the network engineer at the time was [...] with powershell and liked what he saw. He promptly left after the contract was signed and before we integrated Automox into our environment.

We didn't find this product to live up to the hype that was sold to our network engineer who demoed this product. In my opinion, it hides all it's faults and clunkiness behind a pretty UI and graphs.

Our engineer at the time really like the powershell scripting interface because he was a professional at that language. I liked it because it integrated with the Rapid7 Insight VM.
Thoroughly evaluate the PS scripting aspect along with its ability to patch PC consistently.
  • No Training
In my experience, no, it was not easy to learn without training. The one who did get the training for our company left before it was fully implemented into our system.
In my experience, they were responsive but the fixes were more like bandaids than a fix for the underlying problems which they admitted were on their end.
When I used a script generated by the Otto AI bot that ended up bricking half of the Automox clients within our environment. It had to be fixed within Automox and not on our side.

We had issues with WSUS and getting our systems patched. Often times WSUS would be fully released and a system would say it is up to date but not take feature releases. Reporting from WSUS was also horrific. We had zero third-party update management after the initial MDT install. It would be up to the user to update third-party applications like Adobe, Java, and web browsers. If we had issues with web client applications, we'd have to verify the version of their browser first since they could all be at different versions.
  • Great support from the Automox team
  • Excellent knowledge base and how to programs
  • Easy to view systems and updates needed
  • Able to create multiple groups or tags for filtering and separate policies
  • Constantly releasing new updates and features
  • The current agent doesn't recognize if a user manually reboots so the panel constantly says the system needs a restart. They are fixing this in a new version
  • Search feature on their worklets. There are work arounds but there is a lot of information to manually look through
  • Hard to drill down devices using specific tags or groups. Seems to be a 'and' filter, could add an 'only' option
  • The reporting system could use some improvements. Unable to export of view the reports other than the console.
Definitely helps with getting patching up to date. Able to see what connected devices have a specific software version installed. They support a wide range of third-party applications as well as Windows, Mac, and Linux OS and are constantly improving their software or process as users request enhancements. They communicate well about vulnerabilities and hold extra monthly webinars with how-to or feature enhancements.
  • Windows Patch Management
  • Third party application patch management
  • Ability to quickly remove or block a patch that can cause issues
  • Can use Automox to push software and other changes to workstation
  • Previously no patch management reporting although we were using WSUS
  • Satisfies the Cyber Insurance need for patching
  • Able to patch machines regardless of location, on prem, remote, VPN, etc.

While there are four of us that are using Automox, we have assigned one lead technician to take care of Automox and the rest of the team assists as needed.
  • Third party patching
  • Reporting
  • Correct Microsoft updates
  • Able to force critical zero day patches immediately to all Automox devices
  • Able to remove any patch (from all or some machines) that hinder our work or applications
  • Able to see who is connected online and who hasn't turned their machine on.
  • Able to push any software to connected devices
  • Helps us find stale devices in our Active Directory, devices that are not connected to Automox get disabled in AD until we can verify the location and then get it properly updated.
The system is really simple. We pushed the installer out through Group policy. Devices connected can get further defined by Tags or Groups.
