Robust ELT with Matillion for Redshift
Pentaho was used initially but the support was terrible. It was taking years to fix bugs and the scheduler was buggy, and it took an eternity to get the issue with the misfired job on the quartz Java scheduler to become made reliable. Informatica is a great tool that was considered, but Matillion was chosen as it is younger, cheaper and specific to Redshift. Jenkins is another tool we used. It is very reliable and free, but it was so difficult to create a simple and clear workflow to understand.
Matillion is very initutive and easy to learn, when compared to other tools. GUI is simple, not crowded, support is awesome

Simple and powerful data aggregation tool
It has a drag-&-drop graphical UI, which makes it easy to connect all the components together. It's very fast to set up from cloud marketplace. It supports many data sources and it also provides a customizable data source component.

My experience as a newbie to Matillion
SQL Server Integration Services was the only application that we examined since most of our primary data sources are built in the Microsoft environment. Matillion's ease of use and cloud-based architecture allows our team to have a single entry point to examine the most recent version of code and make modifications to it. Matillion seamlessly integrates with Snowflake and is a much easier product to work with, especially from a source control perspective.

Matillion is fast, fairly flexible, and easy to use
Similar simple GUI but Matillion's is much cleaner, easier to manage and debug, and easier to connect to cloud databases. Matillion is also much faster.
I did not make the purchase decision, but Data Services has a very high upfront cost and is not cloud-native not *was* Snowflake capable (it may be now). It's a good piece of software though.

Matillion Is Easy Data Pipelines!
We used Airflow for a year before switching to Matillion. We switched to Matillion because the Airflow servers were not stable, and we didn't have any in-house expertise that could manage the Linux OS which Airflow is built on. We were constantly frustrated by the fact that we had to wait for a consultant whenever we wanted to manage one of the servers, or if something was down we had to wait for someone to fix it. Also, Airflow doesn't have a GUI that is drag and drop. It is a lot more work to manage the flow of the scripts in Airflow, and requires a lot more explanation, especially for an entry level data engineer. There is a lot more coding in Airflow, which is fine if you are a good coder. However, Matillion offers a bigger tool set for those who just want to focus on building an ETL pipeline, and don't care to do a lot of coding.

Lean & Mean Data Integration with Matillion
Matillion is more mature and it has more data connectors.
When we started there were not many options and the ones that were did not have the same level of functionality.

Easily set up your ETL/ELT pipeline with Matillion
- RedPoint Data Management & Quality, AWS Lambda, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SAS DataFlux, SAS Data Management Platform and SAS Data Integration Studio
Overall from an ease of use and set up standpoint, it stacks up better than most of the other tools I've used. However, Matillion doesn't quite expand and scale up as well as the other solutions.

Matillion ELT for Snowflake
Matillion had out of the box support for most of the third party tools we have, plus it integrates well with our data warehouse platform. We found it to meet our use cases after a trial period. It's customizable when you know what you are doing. The use of global and local variables throughout the tool is very helpful.
We previously used AWS Data pipeline, Glue, and Airflow (opensource) for many of our business and operational ETL needs. Matillion has been a good alternative solution.

A good solution for a one man data shop
I used Airflow, AWS Data Pipeline, mETL, and night-shift. Airflow and AWS Data Pipeline is simply horrible. mETL is still better, but the GUI is not that easy.

2 Years with Matillion
There's a number of systems not available to enter in here that we also took a look at: AWS Data pipeline, Airflow, Xplenty, etc. The reason we chose Matillion is for the balance of features (ability to connect into cloud data sources like Jira), a simple interface to put together Data pipelines (that required little to no coding), and a reasonable price point. Matillion is pretty unique in that it hits a balance of all three of those requirements.

Matillion for Snowflake - Excellent (cloud-only) solution for ELT pipelines and complex transformation needs
Matillion is the best alternative for on-premise ETL tools if you are looking for a cloud-only solution. None of the tools we evaluated provide same features offered by Matillion. Extensive technical documentation is available on the website which makes development easy and fast. Excellent technical support is willing to assist 24/7 and provide meaningful resolution.
I was not involved in the ETL tool search, but Matillion was selected for both usability and pricing options.

Matillion has met the needs of our data warehousing and ETL better than we had exptected
Matillion is definitely a more powerful tool than AWS pipelines.

Matillion For All
Teradata is basically an SQL tool from where we manage the database. Matillion is a whole other ELT tool on which we can work on independent from the warehouse. It is also much cheaper and installation charges are much less. Informatica is very similar to Matillion in terms of usage, but I feel Matillion is more user-friendly in comparison.
