OutSystems has a better time to market with a lot of functionalities included in the package that allows us to manage the system and customer expectations. It allows us to speed up the digital transformation roadmap because we can migrate small legacy applications from different technologies in the short term.
The weak point is the license cost. It is too high.

OutSystems can be thought of as a combination of all three of the thing listed above. Service Studio lets you manage your code and business logic, your entities (database tables), and provides access to your web server where you can deploy, run or debug your code step-by-step, if needed. They also offer recommendations on how to split your application into modules that can be reused between applications using the 4-layer-canvas approach.

Kony seemed to have most everything that OutSystems has. However, getting up and running was much easier and the development process was much more efficient. Also, the ability to move between environments was easier. Overall, OutSystems was a better product.

The two platforms are similar in a lot of respects but Mendix has a strong project management side where OutSystems put a focus on the devops. We had an existing project management solution so the increased focus on devops was a better fit. We are also a .NET shop and OutSystems being based in .NET made it an easy choice.

We looked a couple of platforms - but limited our research to those in the Gartner magic quadrant. They were all similar, or at least each had strengths and weaknesses. We choose OutSystems because: 1) they were .Net based as opposed to Java 2) they were SQL server-based and 3) they had on-prem installation.

We spent a year on our due diligence to make sure Outsystems would be able to satisfy current replacement application needs as well as deliver on new experiences. We looked at competitive products, custom coding, and best-of-breed combinations of all our current application.

The biggest benefit is that it helps avert vendor lock-in (you can take the code and leave if you need to/want to)! Also, OutSystems supports multi-tenancy and directly incorporates containers and DevOps concepts/tools. OutSystems is on top of analyst charts for two categories -- low code (rapid development platforms) and mobile development.

In the low code market, OutSystems it's the platform that gives us more power, speed, and fewer limitations. OutSystems integrates with all that is needed (if not, we can create that integration) and has the perfect balance between business needs and development capacity. Everything is even more rich tanks to the great support and community around this concept.

Mendix is getting close to OutSystems but has too many vendor locks. Apart from that Mendix is no way near the current status of OS.
Betty Blocks is more suitable to service SME companies, since the costs are lower but the featureset is way smaller.

OutSystems is the right size company to partner with us... We do not need to deal with giants like SAP and Microsoft to resolve quick issues and implement solutions fast and creatively ... Also the support team is always available to help and partner with us ... It is good to know that the number of OutSystems partners is increasing too.

Most complete solution. Beyond the super fast ability to create high-quality web and native mobile apps, the built-in analytics have proven to almost eliminate the need for added overhead of analytics tags.

I've been following OutSystems for 3 years and the pace of innovation and their investment in the platform is stunning.

Lastly, the developer community is excellent - when I am faced with a particularly hard or unfamiliar challenge, the community typically has a solution the same day - often it's already been solved and there are pre-build free components or at least a post that describes the solution.

  • With Visual Studio, you have more control of the code, in outsystems you only have some part of the control.
  • With Visual Studio, you take more time to build a web application, and with outsystems you can have one in a couple of minutes.
  • Visual Studio if you don't know the application very well it can be a little confusing, and with outsystems is very easy to work with.
