we use Teradata Vantage - Enterprise Data Warehousing on daily basis as a tool of choice to extract vast volumes of data to solve various data science and analytics related business challenges, we have multiple nodes of Teradata. It can not only help with data extraction and retrieval but vast number of analysis can be done with in Teradata while retrieving the data as it supports various aggregations and other functions that makes the process fast, easy and seamless.

Teradata: great for data storage
Teradata is used throughout the entire company. It is used to store and query a vast amount of data. We store almost all of our membership, claims, revenue, etc. in this application. Many reports utilize this application to easily compile data which can then be used in other applications to properly display and report findings
- Stores large amount of data.
- The syntax used is easy to learn.
- Makes it easy to import and export your own data.
- Sometimes it isn’t clear the reason an error will occur in the query. More detailed responses would be helpful
- It can be slow at times when pulling large data amounts
- Sometimes spool space will run out when trying to run certain queries
- Most important is having a central location for all data to be stored
- The application is used to query and arrange data
- Can easily import data since this application can handle large amounts of data that other applications cannot
- There’s only been positive impacts from my view
- It is very useful for us to automate reports
- We are able to meet our deadlines and goals because of the functionality this application provides
To be fair, I didn’t select Teradata. I do think that they are comparable. There are some things SQL server does better than Teradata and vice versa. For example, sql server will underline potential errors while you are coding. It also will auto-populate table and column names so you don’t need to have the exact name before submitting your query.

Best analytical database
Teradata is being used by the entire company with more than 1200 active users on a weekly basis. Teradata is our enterprise data warehouse. It was heavily used for handling massive volume of data to support our business with reports and raw data. It was used for analyzing web logs data.
- Teradata is a MPP system and its capabilities allow [us] to process a huge amount of data with great performance since it works by the concept of nodes (amps), being scalable and offering great reliability about data recovering, massive processing managing, data backup, etc.
- Teradata Vantage integrates Python, R and other tools that allow [us] to work and develop complex Data Science wise processes.
- Teradata is extremely efficient and it has lot of utilities to support extraction from different source systems.
- Support for geospatial data could be better.
- Quite expensive compared to other products out there on the market.
- Teradata support for R, ML
- Explain plan is good to optimize the heavy i/o queries
- Its robust mechanism to handle node failures, its extreme efficiency and its parallelism.
- Teradata helped to deliver reports faster meeting SLA's.
- Vantage incredibly enhanced performance with compression techniques that helps to store huge amount of data efficiently.
- Cumulative solution to the business problems we often found too complex for our data team.
Teradata is one of the best databases compared to all the other RDBMS databases. It's because of the well thought architecture and features built around it. Nothing can match to its performance and speed. If cost is not the factor, I would highly recommend Teradata to anyone who want the best data warehousing database.
