Overall Satisfaction with ApptioOne

We use Apptio to track our IT spending at a detailed level and to tie our spending to various different metrics. These metrics include applications, products, benchmarking, workforce time writing, non-workforce, projects, and more.

The problem we have is that we have over 1.5 billion in spend each year and clearly tracking and assigning that spend to the correct work initiatives and services is challenging. Apptio helps us make that connection and centrally manage the data.

Currently, we have over 100 people in our IT organization who use Apptio for IT spending stewardship and planning.
  • Automating stewardship and planning processes
  • Allocating spend to various metrics
  • Centralizing data related workflows
  • The Apptio UI can be clunky and tricky to navigate
  • Apptio often has bugs that impacts our users. These bugs sometimes also impact adoption by new users
  • Apptio has limitations on how data can be presented (e.g. Reports and dashboards)
I am not sure if we use these features.
  • We have reduced of a hundred hours a month in manual data tasks by using Apptio to automate ledger matching rules
They have been pretty supportive but sometimes, urgent bug fixes take longer than expected to resolve. I do not deal too directly with Apptio support though, so I cannot comment much further.

Would you buy IBM Apptio again?

Yes

Apptio is well suited for massive cost allocation/assignment calculations. Also it is well suited for connecting multiple sources of data.

Apptio is not well suited for editting data INSIDE of Apptio (e.g. Editable tables) as it lacks certain features that other systems have.

Apptio is not the best for dashboards as it's features are pretty limited and lack compared to tools PowerBI or Tableau.
