Overall Satisfaction with Carbonite

We use Carbonite for backing up executive and other key user workstations. We previously used it for backing up server data and system states on the servers. It now provides us with very fast recovery if an upper management laptop hard drive crashes.
  • Automatically backing up local files on the workstation. The auto-sync feature works very well and requires basically no interaction from the user.
  • Recovering a single file (or folder of files) is easy and can be done by the end-user without IT support.
  • Being able to easily pause the backup during heavy loads or installations on the user computer is easy to do and very handy.
  • Honestly, I see no areas where this platform can be improved. I give it an A+ for ease of use and stability. It's robust and feature-rich as it is.
  • The overall ROI with Carbonite is effective for us because of the low cost compared to more complicated, bloated backup platforms.
  • Losing critical data on an executive computer because the user chose to store it locally is not an option. Carbonite provides that sense of security.
Carbonite is fast and easy to configure compared to other platforms. It's a small footprint and runs unnoticed in the background without usurping resources on the local machine. Backup Exec is a massive application and requires far more setup and configuration. Acronis, while very good at imaging, is more overhead than Carbonite, and considerably more costly.
Backing up workstations and servers is easy to configure and works flawlessly. It may not work as well with SQL databases and/or cloud services, both of which I have not tested.
