HyperFlex pros and cons
Overall Satisfaction with Cisco HyperFlex
hosting all application in our customers DCs
- easy to use
- efficient and fast
- good integration with the rest of the Cisco ecosystem
- there is the problem with starting cluster where there are not outside DNS and NTP services so we need to workaround this with additional storage or hosting it on the local storage.. many clusters has internal DNS/NTP services not available from outside and they need to be hosted on the HX
- there is not RBAC or user mgmt on the CVMs so it is difficult to not add full permission for the people responsible for just shutdown and power on the cluster
- native snapshots support with ibm backup products
- running from not the only last snapshot in all use cases
- we are selling this products and there are less problem during the integration phase with the hardware compared to SuperMicro and DellEMC so we can more quickly finish the project and have less work after it with the support (your hardware just works and has compatibly drivers)
- less time needed for service
- less downtimes
VMware vSAN is more elastic and easy to sell as you can have more flexibility with the hardware and can use or just upgrade hardware already deployment in the client infrastructure and additionally its have no dependencies about the DNS/NTP, what is important..
first deployment took more times for us, as we tried to use Cisco Intersight with Cisco FI in IMM mode, just to can deploy UCS-X in the feature but this was not supported so we start over.. with CIsco FI in UMM mode and everything was fine. it is fast.. but you need to do what is supported as this platform is less flexible than other products
Upgrades from Cisco Intersight are really great.. just start.. and everything is done correctly and works after it finish,
Yes, but with FI in UMM mode as IMM is not supported. I would be nice to have do distruptive change from UMM to IMM just to connect UCS-X to the fabric,
