Overall Satisfaction with Hyper-V

Hyper-v was used to host all Windows infrastructure (700+ servers) in the company. We migrated from VMware, which saved the company over 100K in licensing.
  • Built into Windows, and free!
  • It's getting better at having the same functionality as VMware.
  • Microsoft support is very active with assistance.
  • Continuing to integrate with Azure for hybrid deployments.
  • Installation, particularly networking, is difficult.
  • Need to improve upon cluster stability.
  • Several components are needed to manage from hardware to Hyper-V. Needs a single pane of glass.
  • Freed up considerable money over VMware.
  • Hosted 1000+ VMs on 8 hosts, whish saved money.
  • Negative impact was downtime of critical business process because of cluster instability.
It is close, but VMware is still the preferred virtualization solution. It is far more mature and with a larger install base.
It will work fine in smaller deployments (200 or less VMs), and all Microsoft shops.
