Overall Satisfaction with Kendo UI

Kendo UI is used to visualise data as charts, mainly pie charts on dashboards. The Grid control is also used on many pages for display of tabular data. The Grids paging and sorting features produce very user friendly pages very rapidly.
  • The Kendo UI controls are solid components, by that, I mean they do not have many bugs or defects.
  • In most cases the Kendo UI controls are easy to use.
  • The code to create a control is fairly easy to follow once written.
  • The documentation is very poor, it is very poorly indexed, and has huge pages with many examples of how to set a property to an integer value. This looks as though the documentation has been machine generated.
  • The documentation lacks a good set of working examples for most of the controls.
  • There are no 3D charts.
  • The controls allowed us to rapidly design dashboards and pages in a RAD environment, and we could easily change chart types and experiment how our data could most easily be displayed.
  • The responsive features of the controls allowed us to target more devices much more rapidly, than we originally estimated.
  • Syncfusion
I have used the controls from Syncfusion, and find the main difference being the 3D charts available. The level of documentation and samples are at a similar low level for both products. There does not appear to be much to choose between them in terms of functionality, but there are more examples and answered questions on CodeProject for Kendo UI than Syncfusion.
Kendo UI is well suited to data visualisation scenarios where simple 2D charts are required. The Grid control is very powerful and its sorting, grouping and paging features allow the very rapid development of tabular web pages. I am impressed with the Ajax features of the controls which make partial page refreshes very simple.
