Overall Satisfaction with Matillion

We are moving away from Matillion to MWAA Airflow with dbt.
Maintaining source control in github is important to us.

We have used Matillion in the past for:
Replication - Copy from postgres, load to s3, perform transformation in redshift
Running python scripts
S3 data transfers - bucket to bucket

  • graphical user interface
  • Moving around widgets
  • options for out of box operations
  • connections
  • source control maintenance (sync w/ github)
  • poor logging, in my experience, can't see clearly what error is if something fails
  • in my experience, difficult to connect with outside tooling
  • In my experience, needs constant backup, takes time to maintain
  • In my experience, when something goes wrong, it takes too long to find the error.
  • The logging is hidden
  • More hours spent on data preparation
I prefer code that is source controlled. Too many things can go wrong when your operating on production analytics data, and making changes.
Tenancy is also an issue; in my experience, the server can't handle too many logins at the same time. If multiple people make changes, the project can become unusable and it's extremely difficult to backtrack.
1-2 days. I started at [...] had inheritted this Matillion project. I immediately recommended we move away.
It might connect to many data sources, and multiple environments; but I would not call it flexible or scalable.
How it Matillion scalable? I'm now confused.
