Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use NetSuite ERP to manage all of our inventory, receive inventory, accounting, ecommerce and order fulfillment, and sales in store on NSPOS. My primary use of ERP is to manage publish and manage products on the website. NSERP makes this easy because by using one single source to mange items. For example, the same items created for selling in our physical location are easily published for sale on the SuiteCommerce webstore.

Pros and Cons

Allowing custom fields on records like item records.
Providing one single data source for reporting.
Allows creation of very granular permissions for users

Latency in ERP is often an issue and impacts individual users' performance
Learning curve for new users is an obstacle

Return on Investment

Initial implementation and migration was brutal. We lost 13% of our annual ecommerce sales value because of the transition.
Once we were up and running on NS ERP, it was refreshing for the entire organization to use one data source for sharing and reporting data.

Usability

NetSuite's learning curve is a beast. It takes new users months to come up to speed. The free NS training tools are not sufficient in my opinion and the paid training while quality is priced at a point that makes it inaccessible to all but the highest tier of NetSuite users.

Support Rating

The initial support process is slow. It is extremely difficult to get our issues elevated to a high priority. If you are not a large, top tier user then you do not have enough clout to get proper attention for your issue. My website was down for a week because of a core product defect. It took days to get support to seriously look at this and to determine it was indeed a defect. It then took days for NS to fix. Getting the attention we need through first tier support is difficult.

Likelihood to Recommend

NetSuite ERP is well suited for large organizations that have the technical human resources and focus to support ERP. Your success with ERP will be determined by your ability to extract the benefit which requires development. Everything is "in the box" but you need to get it out of the box. ERP would be less suited to organizations that lack technical resource or dedication to technical development.
