Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Linux

Oracle Linux is the best DB platform to use if the entire environment is Linux-based. It is easy it integrates with other systems and helps us easily work across teams to distribute data needs. We currently use it across many teams and it plugs into our ERP system as well. It is part of our other Oracle systems and complements them really well.

  • Not too many users who know it very well.
  • Compatibility issues with Windows products.
  • New features and improvements take time.
  • UI/UX is very outdated.
  • Fast stability to grow environment to accommodate business needs.
  • Stability and uptime are great if using it for business critical applications.
  • No distribution cost.
  • Tools and services to help maintain the OS and auto-deploy.
Oracle Linux is the best OS for business needs and it is widely used across many big organizations. The availability of forums and online case studies made it a no-brainer to chose this as there is a lot of support available for it. Oracle support is hard to deal with, but plenty of resources are available.
Oracle support is always the dreading part of any Oracle product. However, there is a huge community out there of forums, playbooks, and other resources that people have shared that can help. Oracle support is delayed and should only be contacted if you are major issues that can only be resolved by them. They have tiers of support so expect a lengthy support time.

Oracle Linux OS is best used for organizations that run everything on the Linux platform. It is for large-scale companies that can allocate resources to support it. It is very hard to find devs and people who know how to use it so training is required. It is for orgs who need very high security as Linux platforms are pretty secure
