QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Review
Overall Satisfaction with QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise
We utilize QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise for our daily bookkeeping and financial reporting. This is where we enter in our daily transactions to track income as well as all of our accounts payable transactions. General Journal entries are quick and easy to input and allow for me to allocate every penny to the correct account. This is crucial for budgeting. The same can be said for accounts payable. Everything is well organized and easy to locate and analyze. With the click of a few buttons, I can find any expense with the corresponding invoice. We do not utilize QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise for invoicing due to the nature of our business. All invoicing is handled through our veterinary software. QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise is where we go for all of our budgeting. Because everything is well organized and detailed, you can look at as big or as little of the picture as you want. We utilize the software to locate any areas of concern within the budget. The software can be difficult for new users without training as it is not extremely intuitive. There are numerous tutorials available, however, and once you learn how to navigate it, the software is incredibly easy to use.

- Reporting can be as detailed or as general as you prefer. Each report allows you to look at the overall picture or access specific details of each aspect of the company financials.
Cons
- The system is not intuitive. Without training or guidance from another user familiar with the program, it can be difficult to navigate.
- Remote access requires a third party.
- Bank Feeds can be finicky when trying to load transactions. There are frequent connection issues and errors.
- Time saved bookkeeping frees employees for other tasks
- Security ensures accuracy and saves time and money on corrections
- Detailed reporting makes it easy to locate and correct and problem areas with income and expenses
QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise has allowed us to track and manage any areas within the budget that were a concern. We are able to track income and spending as often as we want, enabling us to correct any problems before they seriously affect our profits. It has also made setting and tracking goals more feasible. Over the years, this has allowed us to better manage spending vs income and increase our profits annually.
I was trained by a former employee. I did not find QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise incredibly intuitive. I found that I was learning a lot as I went through trial and error. QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise was easy enough to use for the day to day within a couple of weeks, but to really have a full understanding of the entire software took several months to a year. Even now, there are many features that we do not utilize and I would require online tutorials to navigate them.
For our company, QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise has met our expectations. We did not experience any unexpected benefits. We needed a program to manage our book keeping and that is exactly what it did. We may not have experienced unexpected benefits, but QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise delivered on exactly what we needed from it.
Using QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise has allowed us to closely evaluate both where our money is coming from and going to. We are able to assess the business as a whole while also tracking individual categories. This allows us to ensure that we don't lose sight of any problem areas. We can track the overall health of the business, but make sure there are no weak links in certain areas. This has helped us formulate marketing strategies as well as targeted budget goals.
I only have experience using QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise, so I cannot speak to how it compares to other software. I can say, however, that I am very pleased with QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise and have not once considered the need to look into other software options. QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise gives the company everything it needs and leaves no reason to look at other avenues.

QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Feature Ratings
Using QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise
2 - I use QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise as the Office Manager. My duties include general bookkeeping, accounts payable, budgeting, tax planning with our CPA, and financial analysis. The Practice Manager also utilizes QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise for reporting. The reports are used to evaluate the overall financial health of the practice and monitor expenses.
1 - I am the sole supporter of QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise. While incredibly user friendly, QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise does require basic bookkeeping skills. You need to understand the basic concepts and terminology of bookkeeping to know how to properly use QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise in an effective and accurate manner. Much of this can be learned through tutorials available online from QuickBooks if the knowledge base is not already there.
- Bookkeeping
- Reporting
- Tax preparation
- Accounts payable
- Monitoring practice health
- QuickBooks does offer payroll services, but this is not something we are interested in.
Evaluating QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise and Competitors
- Cloud Solutions
- Integration with Other Systems
- Ease of Use
Ease of use is the number one factor. The person who overtook the bookkeeping position had no financial background or education. The program needed to be easy to learn and use while the employee navigated an entirely unknown field. This proved to be a very good choice as QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise is easy to learn and use.
The remote access for our CPA is difficult on the desktop version. It required a remote desktop, which only allows one user at a time. A cloud based software such as QuickBooks Online is easier if you have remote workers either within your company or outside consultants such as a CPA.
