Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As a Special Educational Needs School with many pupils with literacy difficulties, Read&Write is invaluable. We have pupils with severe Dyslexia and the program allows for greater independence in the classroom. We had a problem with support when pupils were doing their GCSEs as a reader and scribe would be required, Read&Write enables the pupil to sit alone in the exam.

Pros and Cons

Speech recognition - pupils rely less on additional staff to support writing activities in the classroom.
Text read aloud - this is ideal in the classroom as again, teaching assistants are not required to sit beside the pupil to read text.
Proofreading - I use this tool when submitting large documents as I can hear errors when the work is read aloud. Being dyslexic myself, I can not always spot mistakes.

The speech-to-text could be improved as when the class is busy words are missed. At times words have to be repeated and this can cause frustration amongst our pupils. My hope with further advancements in AI this will improve.

Return on Investment

Read&Write has had a huge impact on the learning of our pupils as it has increased independence. Pupils were not producing long pieces of writing due to the time it would take to get their ideas onto the page. I have pupils that have significantly increased their output.
As a Dyslexia Friendly School, we meet the needs of our pupil's reading and writing. We were recently assessed by the British Dyslexia Association and she was impressed at how the program is being used throughout school.

The team is always available when we have any queries.

Platforms and Devices

We must have the best support available for our pupils and staff. As a Learning Support Manager, I need to know that it is making a difference in their lives. It may sound corny but the program is life-changing if you are illiterate and it consequently does need to be available across all platforms.

Read&Write is an ideal tool for the classroom and home use. It gives pupils greater independence and consequently, they are less reliant on staff support. The program can be used in exams and most importantly the GCSE English Reading paper. Without Read&Write, pupils would be disadvantaged from their peers as a human reader is not allowed.
